It made sense at the time, he was still the best right back in the world, we don't get 4 in a row without him. I suspect the second year was the only way we kept him. The mistake was not getting his replacement in before it was desperately needed. If we had another fullback at the club, he wouldn't be on the pitch enough to fuck up so much.

He wasn’t though . He wasn’t even in the champs league final and all talk was of him moving on but then he got another contract . and actually made captain .

Like every man and his dog, I can blatantly see we need some fresh blood in Jan, then plenty more in summer. However I still think I'd be surprised to see us make any serious moves in Jan... anyone else feel the same?

Just looking historically how weve tended to wait till summer. Its unprecedented as we haven't been in this situation before but I just dont see us paying over the odds and dont see which top level players would move in Jan.

Hopefully we can pull some lesser known nuggets weve been scouting.

Hopefully I'm talking crap and we sign 5 top class players and spend a fortune.

We don't usually, but I think we're in a pretty unique situation here. We're absolutely desperate for 2 or 3 new players because the squad is short in a few areas, and we made a huge profit in the summer so can afford to spend £100m-£150m.

Can’t agree it made sense he was angling for a move and we could have got a fee for him and was already on the wain, wasn’t the best rb in world either IMHO The only reason we basically begged him to stay is they didn’t want so many leaving at the same time Agee we should have already had a replacement lined up though He’s a liability with a 2 goal conceded when he plays v 0.6 without him

He wasn’t though . He wasn’t even in the champs league final and all talk was of him moving on but then he got another contract . and actually made captain .

And Rodri didn't play in our first champions league final. That statement proves nothing. Pep was desperate to keep him, he was integral to our 4th title in a row and any suggestions otherwise is simply letting the current version of walker cloud your memories. He's just been getting nominations for the world's best 11 off the back of last season.

If we had the walker of 2 years ago now, we wouldn't be in the mess we currently find ourselves. Us no longer having that version of walker is the primary reason why we are so horrifically exposed to transitions.

Keeping him was not a mistake, keeping him as the only recognised fullback in the squad was the mistake.
