It's Quiet 18 - Wanna ring the bell?

I'd like Jude, but I personally don't even care who it is, I trust the board.

I'm of the mind if both Gundogan and Bernie stay, then promoting McAtee and Bobb as understudies for a year is a pretty safe bet to make. Hard to sign a big name attacker if nobody leaves imo.

See how they do in limited game time, say like 1000-1200 mins for the season to give them rest.

If both are looking very good, then amazing, double succession plan solved.

If only one looks good, then that's great, we have a succession for 1 player, can sign a high profile player for the other.

If neither look good enough, then that means in 2 years we simply have to fund to high profile signings.
Assuming gundogan and Bernardo stay that's Fair, but I would say send Palmer on loan - mcatee then gets the minutes he should have got (if not more).

Then I think we need to bring in a midfielder regardless. In big games, if both Bernardo and gundogan were on the pitch, we had no one from the bench to come on and settle a game down. It's why we saw so many games with no subs and the same players not being rested. He won't trust mcatee with that role, he's too attacking.

That being said, if we can replace Phillips with a player who can play both 8 and 6, it means we have that extra player to hel control games, give rodri a rest, and rotate gundo, Bernardo, etc. Plus mcatee still gets opportunities. Even if we decide Phillips gets another shot, we need another body more focussed on retaining posession to help with minutes.

His lack of game time in the last 2 months tells me that Pep feels very much the same.
No, it tells us Pep doesn’t think he’s ready to risk playing instead of Rodri on a run in we had to win every game. Tells us nothing about how he’s improving or not in training, his workrate in training, his attitude around the squad in training, whether Pep thinks he’s starting to get what’s required. So no you have no idea what Pep thinks he deserves over the next 3 games.Maybe we’ll find out this week.

He won't be at the club next season.

Another thing you know for certain what Peps thinking is it ? Wouldn’t surprise me either way, can’t say I claim to know what either Pep or Phillips are thinking.
Pep is currently mulling over todays team selection.
Phillips is thinking about scoffing another bacon sarnie.

Think once it gets to the business end of the season Pep does not take chances with individuals. He sticks to a small pool of players he trusts to hold it together and get the job done. Phillips never got the early season chances to prove he could do a job and was either average or poor in the small cameos he did get. Was telling us there have been no sympathetic words about impressing in training and getting a chance next year so am leaning towards your view that he will be sold as soon as a reasonable offer comes in (if it does!!). Can see us targeting Rice as it would allow us to stick to same system with Rice becoming centre half / midfielder and the rotation would be between Rodri/Rice/Stones.
