It's Quiet 18 - Wanna ring the bell?

There were reports earlier in the week that Gundo had been offered €100m (£86m) per year, just like Kante. Madness. I did the maths, and they earn in a year what someone on £100k per week earns in about 16.5 years.

I'm pretty sure all these figures are going to turn out to be bullshit.

You don't need to offer Kanté (who currently earns about 7m a year net) €100m a year tax free.

If he's going to take the money, he'd take it for 20m year tax free. Or if he really needed convincing, 30m.

Same with all the other players. You simply don't need to offer them 15x their current salary to recruit them. 2-5x would convince anyone who can be convinced by a financial offer.

It stinks of the usual press deliria, and stereotypes of arab sheikhs having no concept of the value of money. The Saudi's love to be seen to be throwing their weight around (Im aware of the irony of saying this after criticising stereotypes in the same sentence) which is why it's probably not been countered in the press.

Completely agree with this. The Saudis might be rich, but they are not stupid. Why on earth would they give Kante 100m when he would accept a lot less than that? Doesn't make any logical sense and it seems these figures are just completely made up without any real source confirming it.

And that's assuming the poor footballer on £100k paid no tax. Someone on £250k PAYE would need 11 years.

Think I'd stick it for a year or two if someone offered me 11x my salary!

Some of the numbers being hurled around are utterly ridiculous and go wholly against the culture of the Middle East. No business could sustain these kinds of wages… as you say exceptional tax free salaries are being offered but I very much doubt players are going to get a 10 fold increase to go there

I doubt it.. look at LIV golf. Phil Mickelson got 200 mil. Tiger was offered 700 mil.

The money is real.

And there is a concerted effort to own sports or e-sports. I don't know if many of your families play video games but a lot of the publishers have been recently bought by Saudi Arabia.. games like World of Warcraft, Everquest, Overwatch.
