Makes some sense if it's Messi etc, for the press it generates. Whilst good footballers, not sure how much publicity you get with Kante and Mahrez etc, especially if they'd be willing to accept a lot less.I'm pretty sure all these figures are going to turn out to be bullshit.
You don't need to offer Kanté (who currently earns about 7m a year net) €100m a year tax free.
If he's going to take the money, he'd take it for 20m year tax free. Or if he really needed convincing, 30m.
Same with all the other players. You simply don't need to offer them 15x their current salary to recruit them. 2-5x would convince anyone who can be convinced by a financial offer.
It stinks of the usual press deliria, and stereotypes of arab sheikhs having no concept of the value of money. The Saudi's love to be seen to be throwing their weight around (Im aware of the irony of saying this after criticising stereotypes in the same sentence) which is why it's probably not been countered in the press.
Or maybe they've got Peter Risdale negotiating for them.
