Problem with maddison is hes already 26, 27 in November and by the time hes up to speed hes 28. You then have him at his peak (if he can improve) for 3 years.

Same as phillips. Signed at 26, now 27, 28 in December. And thats even before you consider if he’ll ever make it.

Not far off the same with grealish, 1 year earlier, but now 27, so maybe we get 4 top seasons from him.

Compare that to kdb (24); silva (24); bernardo (23); rodri (23). Signed young so they can develop, then they peak at a good age and we can benefit long term.

If we did go for maddison I’d really not be convinced by this strategy of picking up mid aged 1 club english players. There must be a long list of young high ceiling alteratives across europe we should be targeting instead.

Bellingham replaces Gundogan
Julian can cover in midfield (more playtime)
and Perrone and McAtee will be phased in

if Kalvin moves on.. maybe Kovacic in,
if Laporte leaves, Gvardiol in.

Pep likes a smaller squad where no one complains about game time.

We might actually end up keeping Sergio Gomez..
Absolutely loves being at City and seems to not complain about not getting minutes!
