I kind of agree agree with everything you have said my problem is that I don't think he is the stand out best defender in the Prem never mind the world. Are people honestly arguing that VVD wouldn't have the capacity to learn Pep's methods and still be a great defender? He'd have the same opportunity to look as good as Laporte & Stones do. Because he isn't required to break lines with passing/dribbling/deep progressions doesn't mean he can't - when we were linked there were countless videos of him at Celtic/Southampton which showcased his ability to bring the ball out. It's partly why we were interested.
So why doesn’t he do it for Holland when De Ligt does? End of story. Are people honestly arguing that VVD wouldn't have the capacity to learn Pep's methods and still be a great defender? Laporte is actually doing it week in week out what you have described above whilst defending for his life and he rarely gets a mention.
Further yesterday VVD was playing in a team that generally was set up for him to impose what you have described above. He nor de ligt ever came close to being able to support De Jong by playing through Portugals press. Not all on him to be fair as for large periods a lot of the Dutch were poor. However, my giddy ant apart from Pogba there can't be a more over hyped player in football. He's good but not that good.
I think to be fair to de ligt I thi k the world is still waiting to see what it is he strong at within the next few to several years. I did not see anything noteworthy from de ligt yesterday. He struggled against England in the first half but improved well in the second scoring a goal. However, against Spurs when playing for Ajax there was no evidence of his ability to handle the pressure when the pressure was on whilst helping to build play by finding his midfield, Dejong ironically being one of them in the Ajax team at the time.So why doesn’t he do it for Holland when De Ligt does? End of story.
People on this forum quote Maguire as being good at bringing the ball out, despite being as subtle as Andy Ruiz at an all you can eat.
I'm bias I know. But if the Ballon was going to any defender I'd give it to Laporte and to be really controversial although I can't hack him at all Robertson for me has been far more influential or their right back.Completely agree that he's overhyped and it will be proven as he'll be the winner of the Ballon d'or, despite Bernardo having a greater impact in teams that won more. However, he is still a very good player who would have more than likely adapted incredibly well to our style.

I'm glad I'm probably a bit bias though because it prevents me from falling for the journos or social media jedi mind trick about how good VVD is supposed to be.
It kills me. If only Mendy could stay fit I think this would be a very diffrent conversation.
What loan?I might be well off here but why would we take out a loan this early if signings are not imminent??

According to martin samuels we have taken out a loan from barclays with the prem tv money as collateral so we have cash to spend,it's quite normalWhat loan?

He's both overhyped and extremely good. He obviously should not win the ballon d'or but people strenuously arguing that he wouldn't be very good in our side, that he isn't very good at all, or that he's aided by Liverpool playing with "three defensive mids" like they're Burnley or something (they do not/are not), is pretty embarrassing. Are people honestly arguing that VVD wouldn't have the capacity to learn Pep's methods and still be a great defender? I covered this in another thread, but I do this kind of thing for a living and it doesn't really mean anything. It's a very common sort of cash management transaction. The Sun is just drumming up bullshit in other words.I might be well off here but why would we take out a loan this early if signings are not imminent??
The source is hardly reliable
[@TEAMtalk] Manchester City have identified £30 million-valued Cruzeiro defender Murilo as a possible replacement for Vincent Kompany. Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and AS Monaco are also impressed by the 22-year-old, however City are believed to be at the front of the queue.
