It's Quiet - a new dawn

How do Real Madrid, Barca and Bayern manage their squads?

That's the level we're aiming for.

Barça's squad is utter garbage. And if you pay attention to European football then you'd know there are a few disgruntled players at Madrid and Bayern.

Everyone always speaks about Zidane's rotation(which is good) but it's massively overstated, James and Morata are off this summer due to a lack of game time. Their rotation is also helped by the fact that Bale is a perma crock. For Bayern, Douglas Costa is certain to leave due to a lack of game time, Renato Sanches also looking for a move. We've also heard of Kimmich being unhappy and murmers of Boateng now being disgruntled..

If our summer is going to be as big its looking likely to be, there is going to be a massive problem with everyone getting the minutes they deserve. Personally looking forward as to how Guardiola deals with it.

But if they all 'deserve' minutes, they can all play a similar amount, which would add up to plenty of game time each. Imo the problem is those who don't deserve game time but get it anyway.

We have had this for years re using young players in the squad: 'the manager has to keep the senior players happy'. No he doesn't, they can just fuck off, the same as they do from Barca or Real Madrid.

If they can't get in the team due to performance, & are sulking, get rid, sign someone else or promote a kid & so on. Whoever that apllies to. Just replace them.

Informative thanks.

It will be a challenge for Pep to keep the squad happy. That said, it's not his job to make players happy, it's for the team to be winners.

That's true but those teams are frequently in the CL semifinal. Madrid's situation is the worse in terms of disgruntled players. But then they're about to win their 3rd CL trophy in three years. Coincidence? I think not.

I don't think the number of games is particularly a problem a squad of about 20 senior players if they are good enough will all get plenty of games. The problems start to arise if we get to multiple finals and if the same senior players keep missing out. That's when some might disgruntled, but we don't have much choice as the only way to get to those finals is with a squad with little drop off in quality when changes are made.

IMO this is how we will remain being also-rans. Wrong mentality.

Exactly my thoughts how in the hell do some think we are going to manage with the squad we had to win anything as last season shown baffles me sometimes it really does.

It's a tricky one to call. You need healthy competition for places amongst the squad to succeed but you cannot afford to have a few disgruntled players stinking the place out through lack of game time or other issues and upsetting the whole balance in the process. We already have had experience of that.

You've got to adjust your mentality to the big teams mate.

Firstly, the issues at Bayern that you're highlighting right now: guess what, none of those players were crying about anything when Pep was there.

Secondly, Pep has always been able to keep players happy. I don't remember anybody except Zlatan (who was out right frozen out from the squad) complaining about game time. Same with Nolito.

Thirdly, you overestimate the pedigree of Sane, Sterling, Jesus in our team. I fully appreciate that they're top drawer talent, and that compared to the rest of our squad as well as compared to the rest of the PL they look pretty good. But face the fact that these kids would be on the Bench at any of Barca, Bayern, and Madrid.

All those squads rely on world class established players who are the age to deliver consistently, not just world class talents like Sane and Sterling who currently can barely last in top form for more than about half the season.

I feel many City fans still haven't come to terms to the size of our club and the ambitions it has. Most are still insecure about how to keep talent happy.

I've never seen the fans of Barca, Bayern, Madrid worrying about player happiness when linked with a world class established player like Sanchez. The same is needed at our club frankly.
