It's Quiet - a new dawn

Well, yes, but it's not as easy as that.

Only so many clubs could afford the fee on Sanchez and even less could manage the wages he's after. He wants more than his current £180k per week, which is ultimately why he's leaving in the first place, and Arsenal are rumored to have offered between £250-280k per week which he has apparently rejected. A club like Bayern would certainly be after a player such as Sanchez and could certainly pay 40-50m for him, but the wages are out of proportion for the current structure in the club and would be impossible for them to take on board without having to restructure across the squad.

Simply put, there isn't really really a market for Sanchez other than a few select teams, of which City are one. If the player wants City, that gives us the edge.

The only hiccup, if there is one, is that he wants to leave for trophies and not as much for the wages from what I understand. If that's the case then it comes down to wages or trophies (we can provide higher wages, Bayern pips us in expected trophies).

It's a brutal call for Alexis. If I were him I'd probably just go to Bayern as that shows a bit of loyalty to my current club.

The trophies thing is an issue, though I'd say certainly less than money depending on the circumstances.

Bayern's current wage structure is very straight-forward. The highest earners are Lewandowski, Robben and Ribery on €160,000 per week, with Neuer, Vidal and Muller just behind on €150,000. That's quite a bit less than the €180,000 or so per week that Sanchez currently gets at Arsenal.
Now, either Sanchez takes a pay cut, or he becomes Bayern's highest earner by a considerable measure just to hold parity with what he earns at Arsenal. Even if that's the case, you have to consider players like Lewandowski, Neuer, Vidal and Muller would all suddenly want a bigger piece of that pie. A squad-wide wage restructure follows and Bayern are hamstrung in the transfer market for years as they have aging players on elephant contracts, but not the capital to simply loan them out and replace them (as City do)

That's all hypothetically in a situation where Sanchez doesn't want more wages, which it seems he at least originally did. If City offer him, say, £230-250k per week that would be a major incentive. Our trophy chances are pretty strong under Pep and, indeed, Sanchez wants to play under Pep again too.

Good post. I'm going to take you at your word on the wages and if that's the case then I can see why 'city think they are 90% to land him'. I still suspect that he'd choose trophies over wages but city is probably right in the middle of both so I can see why he'd say city is my preferred destination.

I personally think we will miss out on Sanchez. Whilst we have signed some of their better players in the past, I cannot fathom why they would let their star player join a direct rival. If they were to sell Sanchez to us, you could argue that their odds of finishing in the four would have markedly reduced. For a player of Sanchez's quality, you would have to surmise that there would be many interested parties.

If the other option was to let him go for free and let him sabotage next season I think it makes a lot of sense to sell to a rival. This is Alexis Sanchez we are talking about. You have to factor that in. Can you imagine what he would do to the dressing room next season if they forced him to stay.

What would he do to a dressing room. Repaint it?

He never struck me as a disruptive player. Looked more like a committed one.

Open feud. Who wants to talk about reality

You are on two threads saying he a wrong un.
Do you want him at City?

Me personally I not arsed. He comes he comes. If not so what. Plenty other good players about. I trust Pep knows what he is doing.
