It's Quiet - a new dawn

Jonathan Tah is still the best young CB i've seen this season, wish we were being linked to him more.

Big, fast, really physical and aggressive defender, but not reckless or a gambler. Good enough on the ball for Pep and 21.

Stones still lacks some aggression and while I think he'll develop it, someone like Tah who will dominate centre forwards the way Kompany used to (or Mangala did on his good days) would make me feel more comfortable about our defence.
not seen him play but your description ticks the boxes. Obviously has to be good on the ball which lessens the choices available, but I also think guardiola's system needs defenders who are very strong in 1 to 1 situations. Puyal was outstanding at that at Barca. Can still remember so many people on here posting he wasn't good enough for us as he was lifting the champions league. Perfect Pep defender. He moved mascherano to centre half for those reasons. Good on the ball, great in 1 on 1 situations.

Days?

As in plural, more than one?

No there aren't. There's about 5 better than him atm max
If you believe this, then you are one of those who think he is special. Unfortunately, I'm not.

I think he looks good because he plays in a league, Italy, that is most favorable to defenders. On a team in that league that has the most experienced defenders, Juventuss, and he is the most technical of that crew.

In terms of individual capabilities there are no outstanding qualities outside his vision and long passing. He is not a great tackler, or interceptor of the ball, not a great header of the ball, not very strong physically ( I've seen him get muscled too many times), Not particularly vocal (so I don't know where the leader attribution comes from)

On the positive side, he has a decent slide tackle and takes good angles to the ball, has decent speed (I.e. faster than Otamendi). Show a a good knack on cornerkicks. And his try crowning jewel is his long balls, chips and lobs. He has a repertoire than a CM would envy.

But going to a new league with greater intensity, less support from the experienced core currently around him, matching up against more physical strikers etal, I seriously doubt he'd be the player he is at Juve.

That's just my view, I could be wrong. There are many young players I'll prefer including Sule, Tah, Chiriches, Marqhuinos, Laporte eyc. They might not be outright better players, but I prefer what they bring overall to what I think he will bring.

Well if you want more, Barzagli, Pepe, Carvalho, Luisao, Godin, Lucio, Di Natale, Aduriz, Xavi, Xabi Alonso, Lahm, Robben, Milito and we could go on, all played some of their best football in their 30's ;-)

Although generally you're right, i'd be wary spending big money on someone approaching 30, you never quite know when their performance levels might drop off a cliff.

Yeah...I have no problem spending money on Bonnucci, I don't think we should spend a ton though. I also think it would be terribly myopic to buy him at the cost of missing out on a younger player. If Pep wants Laporte AND Bonnucci fine...but if we only get one CB this summer (and God help us if we do) it shouldn't be Bonnuci.

Of all the Monaco players, and let's face it - they won't sell off half their outfield, Fabinho was always the most likely. Perfect Pep full back with versatility to play in the midfield who also, as it happens, wants to play for City.

I do think Moraes is all but nailed on at this point.

As for Bonucci, I'd imagine the club will take another run at Laporte before looking there.

One (or both) of Isco/Dahoud look likely, perhaps more so Isco, and another fullback in the mould of Bernat/Grimaldo is certain.

All that said, Pep's comments of late have me convinced he isn't happy with the finishing, believes such things are not possible to train and will look to bring in a proven goal scoring threat alongside Jesus. If Mbappe is out of reach, and it's understandable Monaco holding him for another season, then the conversation shifts back to Sanchez/Aubameyang etc and a more physical presence on the bench as backup.
