It's Quiet - a new dawn

Why?

Do you disagree that Gabriel has the same potential?

He's supposedly the best player to come out of Brazil for years

This is Messi/Ronaldo money for 18 year old potential

If City/Pep wants to pay it..then who am I to argue

I can however comment..that IMO it's a ridiculous fee

It's totally different for several reasons.

The Brazilian league is a conveyor belt for European teams. They cannot offer anywhere near the money that European teams can so they sell and sell early whenever a player shows potential. Every Brazilian players ambition is to play in Europe.

Many players do not fulfil the potential. Think Pato, Denilson, Paulinho. So they don't want to take the gamble that they fall off. I think that in times gone by there has always been a "middle man" to take the gamble on South American players. A Seville or a Porto that we think oh we should have had their scouts because they picked up Dani Alves for cheap then sold to Barca. But they have had as many failures as successes and the barcas of the world are happy for Seville to take the risk as they can pick off the successes-the Alves of this world.

However the big clubs are trying to scout more themselves in Brazil. Cutting out the middle man. And this has lead to an inflation. Neymar probably started it. Think Barca paid 40/50m for him but he was maybe 2 years older then Jesus when they got him. The fees for Brazilian players is on the rise no doubt. We look like we have got a steal. But it's still a hell of a lot of money to Palmeres and they will take the money and bring the next one on. And the next one will probably cost more than Jesus and the next one more. We did a great job getting him for the fee we paid. Think Madrid just paid twice as much for a 16/17 year old. The current transfer fee inflation will impact South America as well.

I can't think of many players coming to Europe for big money from Brazil after the age of 21/22 anyway. There is a gamble regardless of their stats in the Brazilian league. Whereas we have seen Mbappe score against City, Juve, PSG etc. It's just a bit less of a gamble.

And honestly had you heard of Jesus when he was 18?

I thought the personal terms and agreeing stuff with the player would be the hardest as it all depends on if he wants to go or not.
And then dealing with the club easier as they know he wants leave for a certain destination

You are absolutely correct. If he has agreed to terms and said he would come all we have to do is give Monaco what they want. It couldn't be easier.

I think we would regret it in a season or two if he continues to develop his potential. It's a gamble , yes and probably a shit ton of money but frankly that's football now. The rags, Madrid, Barca, etc have snatched top talent at top price for decades. The rolled eyes and the ridiculousness of money in football debate has been sounding in an empty echo chamber for years. Weren't we all sounding off about the fucking swamp dwellers buying every fucker and winning everything! Same old, but now it's us .... our turn; likkle citeh. If Pep wants him and the deal can be done then Bien venue a Manchester City Killian. Bollocks to the haters in the press and other clubs, they will be the same jealous spewers of rag n dipper untruths and historical revisionists if this lad comes or not. I think there is a bit of apprehension because
1 what if he flops . He won't
2 Sergio . Well it's been brilliant and all that but tempus inexorably fugits, so he will need to decide if he wants to stay for another season help these youngsters and win the CL before he goes home to independiente, or takes a big wad of cash and goes earlier.
Sorry rambled on a bit there . Short version if available fancies it and his club will take the money get him in.

Have it.

Karen taking pelters for talking sense,
I know there's a bit of serg about it but she's not far from the truth, certainly not worth the grief she's had for posting.
He isn't the "real deal". That's a fact, he's got potential for sure but wow it's a fucking big statement to commit the money we would have to, if he gets 30 goals a year for the next five years. he'd still be on a par with our Sergio in all aspects except the amount of cash we've spunked.

And the fact that He would be 23 years old :)

Really? Take 5 mins and look at your posts, especially the playing for Sunderland one!

Your issue here isnt us signing Mbappe, its the fact the club is moving on from players past and you just refuse to let go.

Summer 2016 and Hart. Same thing.

If it is, it'll be fucking hilarious.

We're stacked for a decade with the talent we've brought in. The academy should feed in to the team from this year on.

We'll have 50 something loan players due to return from all over the shop, in every position.

Let them ban us for a window or 3, it'll make fuck all difference.

The future is now.
This all day long. Assuming Garcia comes back ready to play DM we are good. Thats the one are we still need to strengthen if we get a young striker this window.

Of you hard of reading. It's self evident that any terms agreed are a package that he wants and may have been agreed with an agent or his entourage.

That is a million miles from, to quote you "If you think convincing Mbappé to come here".

That wasn't suggested. There may be several clubs that agree to players personal terms. The player then has a decision to make.
You really think he has a generic package? Clearly his demands would include something about playing time and that would be dependent on the club. Thus if he agrees to terms it suggests he agreed to go there.
