Not sure why defenders who actually do their job and defend have become so unpopular with our fans?
We have Stones and Otamendi fannying about each game and we put up with them because they're supposedly good ball players.
Bollocks to that defenders should defend if not we may as well stick Bony at Centre back and have done with it.
You seem to be having trouble working out why this might be an unpopular signing, so let me help you out there friend!
a) He is a lifelong rag. This is a bad start.
b) He played for the rags for 11 years. If I had sexual relations with dogs for 11 years and then applied to work at dogs trust I think they would be a little upset.
c) He was absolutely shit for the rags. Highlights include: getting sent off against us for the 6-1, spitting on Papiss Cisse, being benched by Phil Jones and being injured all the time.
d) He has been a good defender for West Brom, but this is about as useless a dataset as you can possibly have because they play a completely different 10-at-the-back style under Tony "The-Bus-Isnt-Parked-Ive-Cemented-It-To-Floor" Pulis. We have no idea if he can defend in a high line or even lead a defence as some are claiming. In fact the rag who city watch interviewed said he needs a leader alongside him to play well, sound familiar?
e) He's 29 years old, which means we will have 3 cbs over 30 next summer and we'll probably have to do a huge overhaul like we have a fullback this season in 19/20.
f) He is going to cost over 20 million pounds, despite only being worth 6 when he was two years younger.
g) The only reason he is linked is because he is supposedly good at 'fannying about' so I don't see how you can criticize our lads for it.
Look I really really don't like the Mangler, he seems like a nice bloke but is about as compatible with our playstyle as I am with being set on fire. But I would keep him in a heartbeat if you offered me the choice between these two. Especially if you offered me 2+ Mangala's for 1 Evans.
