It's Quiet - a new dawn

Well statistically, Otamendi ranges between being the 5th best to being THE BEST defender in the Prem last season - depending on the stats used. So all this diving in crap touted by many City fans is rubbish.

As to Jonny - give me a break. If he was any good he wouldn't have been sold by Utd

Haha what a bunch of nonsense. Do stats show him flapping about? Making unnecessary stupid challenges no they don't. The fact that by stats Otamendi is world class just shows how stupid stats are and how little they actually tell.

Genuinely perplexed we are willing to spend £25m on Evans. Just give Tosin a break and if it doesn't work out the fans will be a lot more understanding than if Evans bombs. Also again what does it say to our youth players.
Kompany will be rested at some time this season even if he is stays injury free.

I was amazed so many fans thought it was OK to go into next season with just Kompany, otamendi, Stones and Tosin (mangala does not seem to be trusted by many).

Well we need an experienced central defender either a top class player like Van Dijk, in which case Stones drops down to Mangala territory and becomes the latest in a long line of central defender flops at City, or we bring in a 4th choice defender. Another Nastasic/Kolarov/Demichelis. Evans could do that job very well in my opinion. I think it will be a good move.

I am surprised it has taken so long for City to make this move. It's a risk that would be suddenly reduced, and yet a lot of City fans would rather we plough on without cover.

Without Kompany last season, City's defence fell to pieces. Stones and Otamendi could not do it. I think there is some truth in the argument that our central defenders were left exposed by slow full backs but even so I think there will be times next season when Kompany does not play, and I'd rather the experienced Evans played alongside Stones, than the inexperienced Tosin.

We could have gone down the Van Dijk route or gone for Sanchez who Spurs are buying, but that would be very bad news for Stones.

It does feel like an afterthought this transfer though. Hopefully it is part of a move for Mbappe, but I feel it's more likely going to accompany a bid for Sanchez which will at least be very popular with most City fans.

Football fans are football fans, they may well be less likely to blame Tosin if he bombs but they will certainly blame Pep if we start losing/drawing matches because of defensive weakness whether Tosin's playing or not.

You seem to be having trouble working out why this might be an unpopular signing, so let me help you out there friend!

a) He is a lifelong rag. This is a bad start.

b) He played for the rags for 11 years. If I had sexual relations with dogs for 11 years and then applied to work at dogs trust I think they would be a little upset.

c) He was absolutely shit for the rags. Highlights include: getting sent off against us for the 6-1, spitting on Papiss Cisse, being benched by Phil Jones and being injured all the time.

d) He has been a good defender for West Brom, but this is about as useless a dataset as you can possibly have because they play a completely different 10-at-the-back style under Tony "The-Bus-Isnt-Parked-Ive-Cemented-It-To-Floor" Pulis. We have no idea if he can defend in a high line or even lead a defence as some are claiming. In fact the rag who city watch interviewed said he needs a leader alongside him to play well, sound familiar?

e) He's 29 years old, which means we will have 3 cbs over 30 next summer and we'll probably have to do a huge overhaul like we have a fullback this season in 19/20.

f) He is going to cost over 20 million pounds, despite only being worth 6 when he was two years younger.

g) The only reason he is linked is because he is supposedly good at 'fannying about' so I don't see how you can criticize our lads for it.

Look I really really don't like the Mangler, he seems like a nice bloke but is about as compatible with our playstyle as I am with being set on fire. But I would keep him in a heartbeat if you offered me the choice between these two. Especially if you offered me 2+ Mangala's for 1 Evans.

Dunno if to laugh or cry at this.

If we bringing Evans and Sanchez then overall I'm sure most city fans will be happy. Just for me personally I'd rather have promoted a youth player than bought Evans who I really don't rate. Tosin might not be up to it but I would have rather played Ferds in centre-back and kept Garcia, to cover his midfield position, for example.

Every extra million we pay for Evans will increase the price we pay for Sanchez, it's all about relativity. This Evans business is the same old City transfer stupidity do we ever learn.

Stats can tell you anything you want them to tell you. Anybody that has actually watched the guy play knows what a load of bollocks that is. How do stats show when he's woefully out of position? Or when he needlessly dives in creating a massive gap which in turn forces other players out of position and results in a goal against? He's the biggest liability in our team. Some days he'll get away with it and look great, many others he won't and will look pub team standard.

All the money spent on the academy and the greatest coach in the world and we can't produce one regular first team player. In fact it would seem that we haven't a player at the moment outside the first team squad better or as good as Evans. Sad.
