It's Quiet - a new dawn

The way I see it. Pep says Spurs play the closest kind of system to ours in terms of positional play and Walker's been a stand out for them. I'm not convinced that he can play as a CM or is particularly versatile but as a RB he's boss and has the attributes to excel with us.

Seems whatever the need for versatility id prefer the main prerequisite of our new full backs was that they're fucking boss fullbacks. If that makes sense!

No, that makes perfect sense and that first point is a good one.

Fabinho is the perfect choice for me given his versatility and passing ability but that seems to have quietened down for whatever reason. I'd be pretty disappointed if he went to united. I know someone (possibly yourself?) said he wants to play at DM now but I'm sure he'd get plenty of opportunities.

I must admit a midfield three of Fabinho, Pogba and Herrera looks a classic Mourinho powerhouse/ tenacious midfield.

Yeah I had lunch with a French football writer two weekends ago ostensibly to talk about the various Monaco players and the French market. He'd talked to Fabinho both on and off the record about his season and one of the things which came out of it was that he sees himself as a CM now and therefore although there were clubs interested in taking him as a full back he was more interested in moving to a club where he was seen as an integral part of the midfield. The feeling was that United had made that pitch pretty hard.

I think the problem with predicting players with Pep is summed up perfectly with Walker. We're assuming that he's going to want similar players to those he had at Barca & Bayern, or he'll try to do what he tried in September with the fullbacks, when he could well have decided he doesn't want a flexible full back who can come inside anymore, he just wants someone to bomb down on the overlap because that's what suits the Premier League best.

Yep, spot on.

I read that in Peps First season at Bayern they played the most long balls/passes in the league, in his Second they played the fewest, so a change in playing style from One season to the next is not beyond him. Walker and Mendy both bomb down the line, and if that's who we are after it points to a tinkering of the system out wide at least.

I will be surprised if Pep doesn't adapt to some extent. Especially balancing the small skilled players in the squad with bigger, fast ones.

It was similar with Mancini, once he'd been 'Stoked' the squad next season was fully stocked with the required number of giants.

I hope you are right,my bugbear is that we haven't got big strong players to go with the small technical players,we need some big warriors as well

That definately describes me , I have dismissed players like Mendy and Walker for that very reason of assuming he now preffered the inverted fullback thing. However he could easilly revert back to his Barca type fullbacks which Mendy and Walker would both be right for.
If we did get Walker though would that necesarilly rule out Fabinho, we dont seem to be linked to anybody for pivot except Carvallho. Havnt really seen Fabinho as a Pep type pivot , but maybe thats another adaption he's making.
