I wonder what impact losing Alves is going to have. That was a free. Does that mean we are going to have to drop one of our other targets, or is money no object. It will be difficult to get in left back and right back cover. I would be very tempted to not bother with right back cover and use Fernandinho as cover for that position. Left back cover is more important because Kolarov can't play there now, and Mendy has been injured a few times, and may even be injured now (he got injured playing against England). Bertrand might hesitate about coming, if we agreed a fee with Saints as it is World Cup year and he'd be the 2nd choice. I would go for young cover. There must be a lot of talented young players who will jump at the opportunity.

No central defensive cover being mentioned. boo!

But if we can get Mendy in, we can be confident of significant improvement. It would be 4 top players in and Jesus as well is effectively a new signing seeing as he played about 10 games for us last season.

Mbappe? That would be a dream signing.

If we could get a CB capable of playing FB or vice versa. Would be perfect. I also think that Bertrand/Mendy rotating for 1 spot might be overkill. Unless we have a lot of injuries. Both deserve to be starting LB's.

So wonder if either can play on the LCB in a back 3?

You could have bought Walker and Mendy today. That takes no insight at all. I was trying to be even-handed about Txiki because I do think he has made some outstanding signings but we messed up with the full backs.

Have you ever considered the scenario that the club knew our position regarding FB contracts and after early consultations with pep came to an amicable agreement to leave the status quo to allow Pep to assess the whole team dynamics to best determine what his FB targets would be?
 
If we do get mendy and walker in we'll all sleep better over the alves shit. Add sanchez and yikes Mbappe its the stuff of dreams

However.

We still need a thug. No chance of Vidal but we need that type of player,If only to protect these kids.
I'd take the guy from Roma (still can't spell his name) in a heartbeat.
Could try for busquets lol.

I agree, we've not really had any grit in the centre mid since De Jong left. I think its something we need when we come up against better teams, especially against the CL big boys.
Nainggolan, Krychowiak, Veratti, Matic, Fabinho would be all decent protection, but seems a way off.
Hope i am wrong though.

He's literally just taking the piss out of Chelsea fans by changing his location. He had dinner with Luiz and Willian last night, and was at Wimbledon yesterday.

He'll be announced as a Chelsea player today.
