Mascherano is horrible as pivot, Pep tried him at Barca.
Gundogan is not a pivot at all.
Getting German players (Weigl) over Bayern is a tough task.
This leaves us with N'Zonzi only. Or Carvalho, but I don't rate him at all.

Gundogan would be an option there, he's shown before he can play the position for us. Mascherano wasn't as good as Busquets, that doesn't make him bad.
We got Sané over Bayern and Boateng prior to that, no reason we couldn't get Weigl, especially as Dortmund would rather sell to us.
