It's Quiet the £250m return

I think MGW is a type of player we need. Rodri and Gonzalez are already slow. O’Reilly and Reijnders obviously faster but not THAT FAST. In terms of recovery defense we still don’t look good in my eyes. Even if MGW is the cleanest player I do think that he is an important asset that can play a good role here.
Also we weren’t good last season already. Nothing against those guys but losing them now won’t change anything. The rebuild has started so no one can expect city to go for the triple right now. It’s just squad space that we are losing.
He certainly has some of the attributes we need. A glaring deficiency in our squad is the lack of pace in midfield, especially when tasked with running back to defend. However, I’d much rather save the not inconsiderable money it would take to bring him from Nottingham and sign Bouaddi from Lille instead, either in the winter or next summer.

5 years ago, the usual complaint on here was that Gundo and Rodri were too slow to win something with them. We won everything and broke all-time records.

As I understand it the leadership group is not yet finalised. Pep said he might pick one or two other players to be part of this group after the CWC?

Can’t keep all those midfielders one of Kovacic or Gundo has to go. Our midfield was snails pace last season we also had no energy.

Teams broke on us for fun. Reijnders is a good start but you can’t go into a new season with the same old midfield as last season. I’d let Gundo go on a free and bring in Gibbs white as the replacement. Full of energy and he’s good technically.

Agree with this.

Times change most teams play transition football. If football was the same we wouldn’t have struggled last season. It’s also not the same squad as 5 years ago. Reijnders alone won’t change everything. It’s basically the same midfield.

It makes perfect sense. He still has a part to play this season.
I'm not arguing he doesn't, necessarily. But the extra year of contract was triggered by the number of games he played last year. And what you argue would have been daft, to not play him in a season we had so many injuries to key players, because it means he can go for free this year.

Any part he may have this season has now changed with the addition of Reijnders and Gonzales, and some extent Cherki.

Squad spaces will ultimately be the diciding thing, but I would bet of it comes down to loaning out new 30m+ signings that can't be registerd in the CL vs letting Gundogan go on a free somewhere, he is gone mate.

Given how many CBs we have, if it comes down to having Khusanov or Gundo, I'd bet that Pep goes with Gundo.

But if we've got too many midfielders, getting rid of one (on a free) and signing a replacement for £70m does not make sense either from a squad numbers or financial perspective.

Having Rodri back is an additional midfield option based on what we had last season. Gonzalez is someone I hope will now start to be more involved. I'd expect Cherki to play centrally and get lots of minutes that KDB simply hasn't been available for over the last two seasons. So there's no reason why we should be going into next season with the "same old midfield".

Just far to many CBs. Reports they wanna keep Reis around as well, might as well just loan Khusanov. He wont be getting a look in.
Other than his debut first 20 mins I think khusanov has got something. Can’t put my finger in it but think he is a warrior like zabba and may become one of those team players who just goes about there business whilst adding some steel to the team

Player of the Month for February and then he disappeared

I'll take that bet!

If they are both here this the season, we both win.

You win if Khusa is here and Gundo isn't.

For the record, it's not unlikely that neither is here come September. Imo, Khusa will stay only if Stones and Ake leave. I think Akanji will stay anyway. If 2 from Akanji, Stones and Ake stay, Khusa is highly likely to be loaned out.

Rodri's pace seldom gets tested. In fact our treble winning midfield was probably slower than the midfield you've listed

Because we didn't have injuries, Rodri including, and everything wrong was down to pace.

Are you being deliberately obtuse?
Okay then let’s keep the same players then this season. Not everything was on Rodri missing. It showed more how dependent the midfield was on Rodri while we completely overplayed him. A midfield of Gundogan, Bernardo and Rodri won’t keep up with PSG or Madrid‘s midfield.

Also the reasoning that Bernardo played too many games. When hasn’t he played too much . That’s how pep has used him. Pep won’t suddenly make him part of the captain’s team and make him play 60% less.

I was talking about the likes of Sav when we brought him in, Echevari, Doku - none we playing at a highest level

Frimpong, Kerkez and Wirtz all were.

Marmoush was for us...

Nunes was but there werent many who thought Nunes was a good idea and so its proven to be.

Reis, Khusonov not playing at the top level either when purchased.

We have bought a lot of potential in the last couple of transfer windown....Cherki is the same as well with this one with the exception of Marmoush, Alt Nouri and Reijnders

Alt Nouri and Reijnders are proven at the top level as I previously said

Scousers have just bought in the vey top young attacking midfielder in the world...could Cherki rival this...potentially but he hasnt shown anything more in his career so far other than being a prospect (one with the very highest ceiling it has to be said) - but as i previously said - he is a maverick and this type of player could go either way - its a bit of a gamble with players like this. Hopefully one that pays off as it if does it will the the transfer of the decade for what we paid for him if he does reach his potential
Savinho was playing at a team that was challenging Real and Barca for the title. He was their best player.

Frimpong was a City reject that we could have gone for if we deemed that he was good enough

Kerkez is less prove than Ait Nouri in top leagues

Wirtz is superb player and is going to be a superstar. However I feel Cherki has more ability he is just a riskier choice. Higher ceiling but much lower floor as well. Well worth the gamble when you compare what they cost.

Frimpong isn't a city reject, no more than Delap , Palmer, Lavia etc. are.
A young player moving onto another club, usually by mutual agreement with the player and the 2 clubs, is a normal transfer procedure.
