Considering the squad issues at full back two of those listed should have been given more of a chance than shifted out so Ake and Delph etc could masquerade as full backs.

We won so much. But the cost was never giving certain lads a fair shake because the risk was too high. Now we pay for that.

But the payment must be going to the top tier, not finding the latest prospect for FC UFA etc

I'm sorry but if the bar for good DoFing is just smashing in 140m bids for Hakimi I'm out.

I'd be livid we didnt get Pedri, Guler, Vitinha, Kvaratskhelia if I just thought a big enough bid made any player play for us.

Maybe because nobody knew what Pep was going to do apart from Pep, if City had got him but Pep decided he didn’t want to go he’d have been left at Sporting, Pep dragging out whether he was signing on or not wouldn’t have helped.

It’s about identifying a weakness and going straight to the best player to fix it. When we don’t, everyone else is weaker for it. It’s not about buying random players, but when you’ve a gaping hole at right back you go after the very best. And if he doesn’t come you can guarantee the next best will send his agent.

No current DM is good enough to replace Rodri anyway. Gonzalez is relatively young, he can improve a lot. Defensively, he's better than Reijnders and Bernardo. Wouldn't be surprised to see him starting alongside Rodri and Reijnders. I think that's going to be our midfield in many games.

Ok so Kounde and Hakimi say no (might have happened for all we know)

So now you don't panic buy, you wait for Gusto, porro or livramento etc

.. which is exactly what everyone is so mad about right now.

That's why I'm lost? Do people want a shite right back to say weve got one, or to wait for a good one - in which case we're literally doing that.

Perhaps. Problem with that pairing is it’s lacking creativity, especially with Reijnders. Gonzalez will hopefully improve enough to deputise for Rodri and maybe even Reijnders, but all three together would lack a creative spark.
 
Rating for the transfer window - 5 out of 10

Ins: Cherki -unproven at this level- could be amazing, could struggle to adapt - complete unknown and a lot riding on him to be creative as nothing comes from our wingers. ...already out for 2 months at least
Reijnders - Good going forward - AWOL defensively so far...leaves us hugely exposed if playing alongside only one DM (or at least another player who can take on defensive duties alongside he number 6)
Alt Nouri - im trying to ignore one of the worst, lazy, momst disinterested performances Ive seen from a city player in 10 years but its hard to. No doubt a technically gifted player but his attitude and application made Cancello seem like a workhorse and godsend. ...HUGE attitude adjustment needed
Trafford - decent prospect- can see why the club got him back
Donarumma - not needed - I hope i am wrong on him.

What makes the transfer window poor however is not the players we brought in, but the complete failure to address large gapping lack of quality in certain areas

1. No cover for Rodri - one injury and we are back to where we were last season
2. We needed two right backs - we didnt get any - a huge fuck up which will cost us games and already has lost us 6 pts
3. No centre half....Dias has lost the plot, Stones and Ale made of glass - Lots riding on whether Khusonov can make that step up ( I do rate him hugely however).
4. Left back - one injury and we are back to Nico Oreilly playing at left back (considering Ake is also made of glass). If we had got a centre half we could have then also used Gvardiol as cover for left back but we didnt.
5 The icing on the cake would have been a goal a goal scoring and more importantly creative winger

Look I think Walker(and Cancelo before him) fucked us over massively in terms of planning. But we’re absolutely destroyed at full back right now and the club seem happy for the message to be that Rico and Nunes can play it. There’s no way those two lads are better than Kabore or Porro short term but this is where we are at.

I appreciate any details others might have so I'm legit not having a go.

Sport is a way to spend time we're not working, sleeping, grieving etc. when there's literally countless other things that could fill that time otherwise- its a diversion, an escape some choose.

I'm too old to allow it to run my life. If people can't take a joke, maybe this isn't for them.

I think if Kabore was better he wouldn't be at Wrexham.

One thing I agree with - the worst thing Pep ever did at City was taking Walker for Sushi and making him captain.

Cancelo who knows, if his nose was so out of joint about Rico I hope we don't end up giving up on Rico otherwise that might be another bad move.

Rico and Nunes, in certain roles are average full backs. Not incredible obviously but as good as most we face and better than those on the market. I don't think there's 10 good right backs under 27 in the world to be honest.

We need stability, we create enough chances when we play well. After the first half yesterday, xG was 0,04 (Brighton) vs 1.22 City.

The creativity will come from the wide forwards: Savinho, Foden, Bobb, Doku, Cherki.
 
How many years did it take us to get a left back and the jury's still out on him, so its only been 12 months for a right back so in the meantime we'll carry on playing weak players out of position, what could go wrong? ;-0
