It's Quiet the £250m return

RB - no even remotely adequate RB moved this summer
Goal threat - last season Cherki got 9, Reijnders 10, Marmoush was the 7th top scorer in Europe
Rodri back up - Nico G is likely the closest thing out there
KDB replacement - Reijnders and Cherki were two of the closest profile players we could go for.

Out of interest who moved clubs this summer you feel we missed out on?
I think ‘likely’ is doing some heavy lifting when comparing Gonzalez to Rodri. He still has a great deal to prove.

Players we missed out on: Hato.

Players I’m glad never moved, to date: Smit at AZ and Bouaddi at Lille.

Our most glaringly obvious need was for a right back which we knew in January yet we do not have one, so very disappointing and frustrating
Disappointing but not being able to move Akanji and Gundogan until today played a part, maybe January,as we actually have the space now . However I’d say Liverpool most glaring need for the last few weeks has been a central defender they failed and it could cost them, they didn’t even have the excuse of no room at the inn. If nyone had a bettervwindow, I’d say arsenal not liverpool.

Fair play mate Hato is a reasonable shout.

For all the fuss about Liverpool and Arsenal i think Cheslea tend to make better buys, but they're struggling to put it all together.

Yeah I agree on Nico, but if theres a young player in all of Europe who has most patterned his game on Rodri it's him.

Why is everyone acting like the world will end in May 2026.

They're not for this season.

It's a rebuild. Probably next year, or maybe even the year after, we'll start a new 3 or 4 year cycle of truly contending for every competition we're in.

Great. But this season cherki will miss at least 14 games and Foden is proving unreliable.

It was madness letting him go knowing Gundogan was moving too.

Why haven't we signed a fucking right back. Viana's job should be on the line for this. Shambles.

Why is everyone so convinced there was a right back to sign of the right age, the right tactical profile, the right quality and actually available?

Who is this person?

"Anyone would be better" just isnt a valid approach for a football club.

And would it solve all our problems. Is that why we lost to spurs and Brighton?

Exactly people keep saying 'anyone would do' but don't name names. The moment a random RB makes a mistake in a game they'll be in the Viana thread talking about how much of a cock up he's made this window.

We should have been all over Neves last summer but mistakenly allowed Guardiola to caution against a rebuild. His arrival would have negated any need for Gonzalez, a player Viana never rated enough to buy for Sporting Lisbon.
Hato should have been Ake’s replacement and could comfortably have played left centre-back, orthodox left-back, and inverted left-back. However, we’ve been hamstrung by the contracts dished out and have no space for anyone, which ultimately is down to poor planning. If Chelsea sit above us come May, I’d pay good money to be a fly on the wall when the chiefs review this season.

As soon as they realised that Nunes and Rico are as much average ability right backs as the ones we could actually get this summer it'd be screams of "panic buy"

Be interesting to see but I would bet Zubimendi proves a better buy.

Totally agree on Neves but it's not inconceivable he'd just have picked PSG over us anyway. Not sure he'd qualify as a "missed out" much like Bellingham.

You stick a 140 mil bid in for Hakimi and see what happens.

We’re Manchester Fucking City. It’s high time our fans realise that means something different now. Shopping for projects is all well and good when you give them room to grow. Look at our recent projects.

Alvarez
Ferran T
Eric Garcia
Sergio Gomez
Angelino

Considering the squad issues at full back two of those listed should have been given more of a chance than shifted out so Ake and Delph etc could masquerade as full backs.

We won so much. But the cost was never giving certain lads a fair shake because the risk was too high. Now we pay for that.

But the payment must be going to the top tier, not finding the latest prospect for FC UFA etc
