It's Quiet the £250m return

and the games he played elsewhere? He's not been RB all season

View attachment 159878

he has 4 from RB

He also has a goal/assist every 372 minutes at RB.

Cancelo had a goal/assist every 449 minutes at RB.

Cancelo's average across LB/RB was 384 minutes per goal/assist, so not a huge amount in it (although obviously Nunes has such a small number of minutes/goals that it's not a hugely useful comparison - we really don't know what he'd be like across multiple seasons).

Much better. Shame we didnt see more of that Haaland/Cancelo hookup.

Think Nunes will get the nod as backup RB if we go with 2 FBs wide.

If you use last season as a barometer yes, except using last season is stupid when we have the last 9 years to see what we are capable of.
We've also had one of the best right backs in the world for the past 7-8 years so I think that's pretty fair a barometer to use when people say we need a right back.

But no left back,we used different types of players at left back, and won everything, now we have a left back ,maybe we’ll now have a left back and no right back and win everything or maybe we’ll have 2 fullbacks. Whatever we'll see..

Even in those seasons, our best option for a fullback wasn't Mattheus Nunes. Akanji I'm not even that confident in playing right back unless he plays the role Stones did in the treble season.

Anyone trying to argue we don't need a right back hasn't seen Nunes play. He's a turnover machine particular when not under pressure. I admire his attitude - he doesnt hide and he has put in some good moments at right back but if you'd told me he's scored a 30 yard screamer i'd need to check what goal he scored it in before I celebrated. He's probably the best option within the squad as it stands if you want an overlap and a cross. Running back towards his own goal or trying to make an easy pass he's likely to be startled and just start aimlessly kicking air

What you think of Nunes wasn’t the point though was it.

We only need to lose 2 if we want to register them all for the CL squad. We're perfectly fine for the league. I wouldn't dismiss the idea of leaving somebody out of the initial CL squad, it's 8 games until registration reopens it's not the end of the world.

I said this last season but I firmly believe teams will treat the league phase less seriously and will play second string sides to get through and not worry about placement, PSG won the thing after scraping through the league in last place proving it matters little, there's more benefit to resting players to prevent burn out and injury than finishing high in the table. With that in mind, omitting a player or two at least until the group phase is done isn't going to be a big deal.

I know it would appear he might be off but as an example, lets say gundo stays and hes left out of the CL squad but still features in the league, given that he expects limited game time due to his age, Is it going to be a problem? I doubt it and we get much needed cover.

Alternatively, one of the younger lads still learning who is unlikely to play in those games anyway is left off, is that really going to harm his development?

I can see this becoming a more popular practice with the expanded calender and more injuries to contend with, it just needs 1 club to do it and be successful before everybody does it. Chelsea shown the theory of it could work reasonably well with their conference league stroll with their B team albeit at an extreme number and at a substantially inferior level.
Oh if I had a pound for every time people were wrong about this!

That was the point of my original post. If you're fine with proceeding with Nunes as our first choice right back then we can agree to disagree.
No ,it wasn’t you were saying we couldn’t be successful with one full back and different on the other side, Pep has proved that wrong many times as have other teams. If he decides to go with Nunes on the right or Akanji, or whoever he’ll prove you wrong again.

Fundamentally misunderstanding my post, but whatever you say. I was talking about the quality of fullback, not whether they're there or not.

I wonder if Cambiasso is still on our radar, what happened to that proposed deal?
We moved on.

Juve wanted close to 70 in Jan and I wonder if they just wanted close to 70 in general without the old it costs more because it’s Jan.

Ait-Nouri is definitely a better signing.

I think we were looking at Cambiaso as like Cancelo he’s able to play either side so last season he’d help fill the void at RB then this season coming would probably have been moved to his more usual Left Back position.

Also he’s more of an inverted full back and we’ve potentially changed our plans. We now look to be signing proper full backs that will help with width.

I like Nunes for sticking it out after a really dreadful start to his City career. He's exciting in the final third and I think if we werent facing a roster crunch with the non-homegrown numbers I think most would be happy to see him as our backup right back. As it stands, the club is looking to spend serious money at the only position Pep will trust him to play and theres still the question of Rico. Is the club willing to carry two half-measures at a position of need while the squad list is already overflowing?

I also expected Nunes to go the way of Kalvin so his performances at left wing and his time at fullback in the latter half of the season were a nice surprise

Nunes went from being roundly hated to having some really good performances at the tail end... the part of our season we actually got right. Not even the numbest skulls here thought we had any shot in CL.

He played in a new position and now knows going into CWC and the off-season that this is where he will play. I think he makes good and alot here completely forget they slagged him off and claim they were fans all along.

I have to be honest.. I was royally pissed after the derby.. like WTF are you doing?? Are you crazy???

Then I saw him in tears and apologize.. hand on heart instead of "Mommy loves me" and I calmed down.. gave him a chance.

If he keeps improving.. he has a shot at having Pep's and City's best redemption arcs!

He's also shown.. Pep doesn't hate players out of spite. As long as you work hard, follow instructions and keep improving.. Pep will give you a chance!
