Every full back we have had with Pep has played a non-traditional role. What you are asking is for us to break with the strategy that has won us everything. I urge you to look a little deeper at what happened last season and ask of you really want to change what we have done because of one year. In fact, not even one year - a part of it - where injuries took a huge toll on the team.
This year we start afresh, with a new coaching set up, a new DOF, and many new players. Just enjoy the ride because I am very doubtful that a peak RB in the traditional sense would have made any real difference to our transitions - we had big issues in central midfield and central defence all at the same time and teams sat and took advantage.
A huge part of last season was the injuries but it was also due to one season too far of loyalty shown to the players that have brought us that enormous success. Those players are still here, as our the players who were and are most consistently injured, especially at the back. Which means another season of pressure being put on Dias, Gvardiol & Khusanov.

I agree that it does feel like an exciting time with the new coaching set up and DOF coming in, but so far we've only signed 3* players and we still haven't addressed the massive issue at right back.

*I purposely excluded the 2 keepers

I not blaming Nunes mate, he`s just not good enough? If Livramento isnt available and wont be next season either then who would the club target if/when it cost us this season?
Who is then?

There’s not world class right backs sat about waiting for us.

Probably a transition season. No expectations really , just want to see how the new guys play. Hopefully we play a more entertaining style
This is my thinking. The future is bright. Bobb, Doku, Savinho, Reis, Khusanov, O Reilly, Nypan, Echeverri, Cherki, Foden, Haaland, Trafford, Livramento (next summer). The future is bright for this team.

That's for the club to work out, but we will find solutions this summer. Who knows, we might unearth Rico "Phillip Lahm" Lewis.

For years we've heard Pep harp on about complacency as the killer of great squads.

Fact is he became complacent the last few years- we had enough talent to paper over the cracks so the question of "what happens next this isn't sustainable" didn't scream in our ears. He stuck to his stubbornness in not changing the system to best suit players on hand and the tank ran dry and injuries tipped us over late last year.

He sanctioned stop gap signings and delayed the tough choice of moving on from older players before it was too late too many times and now we are stuck with a bloated aging squad many of whom we cannot shift to adequality buoy the unquestionably good singings I feel have been made over the last 8 months.

This rebuild is going to take a minute especially given the teams around and above us adding as they have.

I don't understand the loaning of a young and centre back to accommodate keeping some of the aging and injury prone ones, it makes no sense.

if we arent getting a right back Im hoping the idea is to play Khusonov there..he has the pace, can defend nd tackle and has the physical side of the game as well.

He cant attack like Pep would maybe want him to but id still play him there..much better than the other two options we have in Lewis and Nunes (despite his improvement).

Even after loaning Reis, my vibe is we've got too many CB's. Makes sense to loan him because he needs games at his age. Hopefully one of Stones, Akanji, or Ake leave before the window closes too.
