It's Quiet the £250m return

That's my point. What was the point in our January & summer expenditure, only to loan half these players out & to continue with the older, injury prone treble winners, in the hope they've got the legs to last a season without getting injured again?
We are rebuilding for the next few years not just the coming season, if Reis and Echeverri spend a year developing somewhere else, that’s fine, because if they stay they won’t get that many games, especially Echeverri in a position where we are stacked.
Marmoush, Gonzalez and Khusonov probably will get games this season.
Why can’t you understand if older players stay it’s their choice not the clubs choice, doesn’t mean they‘ll play., even if they left there might be room in the squad for Echeverri and Reis doesn’t mean they would get many games.

Depends on who leaves.

But all fair otherwise.

It’s too hard to tell the players that they won’t play so we will waste another year with the same players

Clearly the conversations were not harsh enough. Imagine your boss is telling you that you have to let go of a few employees as a team leader, and after the said conversations, the employees go out and say how happy they are to stay. Something has been mishandled if that's the outcome, that's for sure.
If they have a cast iron contract, they have a cast iron contract. They work both ways I suppose, because if a player says he wants to leave, the club has every right to say we have a contract, so you're going nowhere.

My hope is that there's enough mutual respect that the players deemed surplus to requirements understand our position & will seek a move.

Unfortunately, you never know how people will react until they face that situation.

I understand all of that. My point is simple. We have space for 17 non-HG player in a squad of 25. If the old guard refuse to leave, either they or our new buys with a future at City cannot be registered. What about that don't you understand?

In the hypothetical case of this happening, I asked the question what would happen contractually if we didn't register to play, those players we want rid of? According to the sports law firms I looked on earlier, those players have contractual rights to be registered & to play.

If this is the case & those deemed surplus to requirements refuse to leave, tell me, what then?

I'm not a man of faith. Ultimately, the reality of life comes down to cold hard facts. If what the sport law companies I clicked on today is the actual case regarding player contracts, what's written, agreed & signed in black & white trump's blind faith every time.

My hope & my belief is there's enough love & respect between the old guard & the club, that they'll put City's best long-term interests before theirs. Here's hoping! )(

You're the only one that's seen these things you clicked on, so expecting anyone to comment on their veracity is somewhat flawed. The 'faith' is more that the club have to deal with these scenarios every single window and have done so without anyone coming to harm. Why can't you trust them to know what they're doing?

Here you go. This is the Google search query I made earlier. Click where you see a link sign at the end of each point summary, & it's brings up several links where Google AI has sourced its search query data from.

I'd be genuinely interested in your thoughts...

I don't think City are especially rapacious but Mendy did have to go to a tribunal to get his wages. Player contracts are pretty byzantine.

That's my fear. Will a player like Stones want to risk a season at Everton with it being a WC year? Even if he suffers a few weeks out with injury at City, as long as he's fit come the end of the season, he'll be on the plane to the US imo.

After the WC, I think he'd happily accept a 2 year pay as you play contract from Everton. This could turn unsavoury, & I'm not so sure that if push came to shove, it wouldn't.

Then nothing, we deal with the reality ,not what we’d like to be real, next summer orJanuary we make more changes. We are only really talking about maybe 1 or 2 players in the NHG list and maybe 1 in the HG list. Reis and Echeverri being loaned or staying this season It doesn't effect whether we challenge for the league this season or don’t IMO.

does a premier league club have to play players under contract

No, Premier League clubs are not obligated to play players under contract. However, there are important rules and consequences surrounding squad selection and player contracts
.
Here's a breakdown:
  • 25-Man Squad: Premier League clubs must submit a squad list of up to 25 players after each transfer window closes.
  • Contracted Players Not in Squad: A player can be under contract with a club but not be included in the official 25-man Premier League squad.
  • Consequences for the Player: Being excluded from the squad can significantly impact a player's career, including reduced playing time, missed bonuses, and potential difficulty attracting future transfers.
    • Potential Legal Ramifications for the Club: If a player is excluded from the squad without a valid reason, they might have grounds to claim constructive dismissal or other breaches of contract. FIFA regulations even allow players to terminate their contracts under certain conditions if they are consistently not playing.
    • Motivation for Clubs to Move Players On: Clubs often prefer to offload players who are not part of their plans through transfers or mutual termination agreements, according to the BBC.
  • In essence, clubs have the autonomy to decide which players they select for their squad and playing time, but they must be mindful of the legal and financial implications of sidelining contracted players

As far as John boy is concerned I'm afraid his reliability during his career with us is simply appalling given there has been no major injury. Too big a risk now hence the superabundance of CBs - none of whom are as talented. A real dilemma for Pep and the club.

Sorry, but that doesn't answer the question. I'm talking about the here & now. Players like Ederson, Gundog, Grealish & Stones etc.

What do we do if those older players deemed surplus to requirements & who're under contract, refuse to leave? What then?

We can't register them all & we're only allowed up to 17 non-HG players out of a maximum squad of 25. We've already had players many expected to leave this summer, reportedly rejecting interest in them from other clubs & state they're staying.
