It's Quiet the £250m return

It's stuff like that that drives me bonkers.

Last season Rico got the blame for Kovacic's mistake.

This season Trafford is getting the blame for Dias's mistake for the second goal. I really don't know what Ruben was thinking there.. that Trafford is Ederson.. passing to his left foot with a square pass from a goal kick when we're 0-1 down, about to go to half time. It was like playing Russian Roulette and it went off BANG. Totally braindead move but the kid gets the blame.. even though he was solid. Could do some things better but solid and massive double save at the end.

Yes I love Dias but obviously he needs to find a girlfriend who doesn't fuck his brains out!
Marry her. Simple.

They were midfielders now they are right backs Nunes especially and Nunes is a better one than Frimpong. Our press wasn’t non existent, yes it isn’t perfect yet and was better with Bernardo against Wolves but it will take time.Doesn’t alter the fact we will press and that means no choice about having a high line other wise there is huge void in the midfield.
Our press is awful and has been for a long time. Remember the rule of winning the ball back inside 3 seconds, we used to be all over teams like a rash, now it's half-hearted and good teams play through us no problem.

And Nunes and Rico are not right backs, they have been asked to fill in and do a job, a club of our stature should have a specialist in that position and not be relying on players who get caught out of position time and again defensively.

Cherki had 13 goals and 21 assists for Lyon. The comparisons are valid.
KDB was a legend for us, and had a great season for Wolfsburg, but he was not the worldy he became.
If Cherki starts he needs to play off the right side like he did at Lyon, he's not ready for the 10 role yet. Had a good discussion with a Lyon supporter about this when we signed him and he was adamant he's much better off the right side. Not the best with his back to goal and loses possession to easily when played centrally were his thoughts. Isolate him one v one out wide and he starts to cook.

I’m not liking this retiric from City fans of slagging off the players who have given their all for the club , playing through injuries when they could have said we are not fit. Now it’s like right get rid of of certain players because we want younger more shining players to take us forward, it’s not a computer game let’s not become entitled to win like the rag fans let’s appreciate what we have because football is about cycles and just maybe it’s another teams time.

Up until today I was very optimistic. Now I'm just concluding that Pep's decision to remain with the static quo last Summer has fucked us to a level where it's going to take some time before we get anywhere near the level we were at. I wish Viana all the luck in the world. He's going to need it...
That's like Bernard Manning saying he was pencil-slim until he suddenly ballooned in Las Vegas.
You were never optimistic!

You’ve actually saved me going to Google. Thank you. I was just wondering how many days left and lo and behold you told me/us!! ;-)
Checked myself this morning.

When does the summer transfer window shut?

The summer transfer window for 2025 will close at 7pm BST on Monday, September 1, 2025.

Our press is doubly awful because we have no fantastic defenders, ones also with pace, that can be trusted to go one on one with an attacker and consequently our press is always a player or two light, which leads to it being easier to play through.

There's a marked difference in our pressing intensity between the start of last season and this season. The two charts below show how big the difference is between the first 4 games of last season and the first two games of this season.

I think there are a number of players who are not yet used to their roles.
We will have a rocky ride before it all knits together.

Good post.
I love the aggressive press.
It's a bit early to judge though as it looks like a couple of teams have reduced their intensity, while Spurs have massively increased theirs.

People said similar things about David Silva when he came to England. Not saying Cherki will become Silva, but I'd probably be giving it more than a game and a half before writing off someone positionally.

Also I'd be giving it more than one performance at home before writing off a new team, new coaches, and new tactics.
