It's Quiet the £250m return

I imagine that
Our best players were rarely regarded as world class before they joined.

Coming from Schalke, Atletico, Benfica, Wolfsburg, Valencia, Shakhtar etc.

This idea we frequently took players off CL challenging teams is a bit of a rewriting of history. Most of our greats we made much better after buying them.
SPOT ON.
The difference is simply in expectancy.
We have dominated the game so this drop off - to third last season and a poor start this - has brought with it an anger and a lack of patience in player development. The latter is part of the joy of being a fan, for me, but it is generally done by introducing one or two at a time. We have clearly embarked on something more aggressive than that, and we will have to accept it and be patient.

Are our wingers really this shit or is it Peps tactics?
Neither.
Our wingers are really talented. Our whole squad has dropped its level as a whole unit. It will time to get it back. We have become, until now, too pedestrian in attack and have allowed doubling-up against our wingers who are trying to find a single attacker surrounded by three defenders.

I don't think they are shit but I think they aren't being good enough at the moment. They have fluffed opportunities or just not had the cutting edge. Personally also not a fan of just having wingers who need ball to feet and then invariably cut-in, unless we consistently overlap fullbacks. Variety is good.

An under 24 core of:

Gvardiol
Cherki
Doku
Savinho
Bobb
Gonzalez
Lewis
Trafford
Khusanov
Reis
Echeverri
Nypan
O'Reilly

Is actually pretty impressive. Can our fans show maybe 2 years of patience?

I've read your posts about being a 'guaranteed success' but if we're signing a fullback I think there's a higher chance Livramento would be a success than Harry Ditchfield from Hyde Utd, just for the fact they are better at their job!

No, we cannot guarantee success of any player so you could argue what's the point of signing anyone, if that's the worry???
Because when you are looking at spending £100m on a player, there is more to it than is he better than Harry Ditchfield

I think we are in trouble if we need to forget end product from wings. like regular goals/assists provided by wide players.

we no longer have KDB neither a Foden in peak form or Gundogan who popped up with nice numbers usually by end of season. and even when they did all this we still had Mahrez as a regular source of assists or goals and Sterling too bit earlier. even our CBs had a few header goals each here and there.

I think issue is simple our tactics are really bad for our wingers. but also our wingers are not even close to current top winger like Saka, Salah, Raphinha etc.

I think some can, but many not. The key is visible progress.
The last game saw our youngest starting lineup for fifteen years.
This is clearly a strategic shift. We don't know if it will work or not, but I am confident that we have bought some serious talent. The danger, of course, is that rivals are investing serious dough too, and everyone has data specialists to choose the best talents. It will be a tough ride, but elite sport waits for nobody and we have to embrace the challenge.

I think their record 4 in a row, a treble, probably makes it apparent mate.

And I'd say Hugo got Cherki, Reijnders and RAN for all under market value.

But we were wilting at the end of the 4 in a row season and Jack Gaughan done an article stating that the club were shocked they managed to do it as the squad aged?

Is it ok to keep any of our players or do they all have to go?
The sad thing is, the squad is in a mess, and many aren't good enough but we've had the opportunity to move Sav, and Rico on, and to compound it we've unfathomably given Dias a new contract. All 3 of those decisions are mistakes imo.

So they've brought in a load of players under 25 that bluemoon has already decided are shite and want replaced with 29 year olds so we never get better and we never start the rebuild.

Last summer was the issue - changes should have happened then. Jan & this window haven't been similar issues, just thinking more long term and having issues clearing space
