Would that not be just between Messi and Barca and nowt to do with City?
Genuine question Marv......dont understand all the legal shit.
I don't know the legals.

His video was unusual in that he released a full account of his dispute and the legal position just before he said he'd stay. So why do that? If he was reconciled to staying, why rock the boat to the maximum degree?
Maybe he wanted to damage Bartomeu, or maybe communicating his unhappiness was designed to damage his transfer value. A player that's likely to leave at the end of the season and who is unsettled and source of conflict and dispute is emphasising that he's on his way out and the next season is going to be rocky, and a thorn in the side of the board.

He has already been paid the full loyalty bonus. Because the contract was a 3+1 optional year and not a 4 year, the whole loyalty bonus of 70m got paid out across the 3 years.

You claim this with such confidence?

I do not know otherwise, but i do not believe that, and from what i Do know, that isn't how bonuses work.

When the press throw about these made up figures for us, what 'true' costs are etc, i dismiss them, most of is do. Yet, when it suits a narrative we just willingly believe them? what they claim is at odds with what is typical, so i'm not taking it as gospel

No, if it went against messi, we would be liable for 700m between us, and a 2 window transfer ban.

Ahsan/ @BillyShears reported it on 9320 after speaking to a lot of people who were in the loop on the whole Messi situation at Barcelona.

Also Messi's contract was leaked in France last year, so we know the numbers, it's not made up. That leak was also how everyone found out about the clause allowing him to leave.

Also the loyalty bonus being paid over the length of the contract not including the optional extra year is what you'd expect.

Massive risk to keep him, they could get 100 m for him or lose him for nothing.

Who says they could get 100m for him?

I don't disagree btw, but it is a bit of a rogue assumption that has become accepted. Agree on the principle, cash in now, risk losing him for free. Or, risk him also not leaving at all.

Hes basically saying he won't sign a new contract under this board, which means his contract will have run out by the time any new president is in place, so letting the current board know they risk losing him for nothing.

But it won't be their problem snd they know it. Unless he signs a pre agreement in january. Which is i think a gamble they will take

Fair enough, if you say so. I struggle believing that, but fully accept i could be wrong. Either way, seems immaterial. If a bulk of it has been paid already, makes no difference to either party now

Two possibilities

1/ It's been rumoured there are Messi clauses in our sponsors' contracts. Likewise I wouldn't be surprised if Barcelona had the reverse: if they lose him perhaps their commercial income will be reduced immediately. €150m on wage savings and a transfer free might not cover it.

2/ They do want to save the money but for Bartomeu to justify selling and not reinvesting in players it would have to happen right at the end of the transfer window.

It’s time to start leaking that Messi will sign a pre-contract with City in January.

That will put pressure on the board. Bart will still be known as the president that forced Messi to leave.

This is the worst case scenario for Barca, pay an unhappy player’s sky high wages for a season, only for them to not win any trophies and Messi to leave for free anyway, likely sign a pre contract in January meaning he’ll probably just be going through the motions for half a season. Bizarre.
