I'm sure they can but left footed Cbs tend to have no experience of playing on the right side as they spend their entire careers on the left of defence(as there are less of them)whilst right footers tend to play both positions.

Ake is too good to play back-up I'd be very relaxed about him playing alongside Laporte, and expect him to provide serious competition for a starting spot whoever we sign

So you didn't read the report that Pep has asked Ake to learn three positions in his system? - centre back, left back and defensive midfield.

But most drills include the right foot and this left footers tend to be able to use both feet more and then you also have Ake’s own words which state he’s training 3 positions since being bought.
