Yeah I'm not arguing the context. I understand we couldn't keep the two. I like the signings of Ake and Torres but if you compared the two sets of players on paper, we have a weaker squad. If everyone City player remained fit, we would have a better season than last despite having a weaker squad. My point is that, on paper, we simply do have a weaker squad.

On paper maybe, but Sane didn't play last season. And we didn't get the David Silva we all know last year. We've not just been promoted, we've got a good enough team. If certain players can up their levels from last year, the football we play is unstoppable. The only thing I'm concerned about is Aguero being out, we're obviously short there.

Sane didn't play last season, Foden more than covers the Silva of last season and Ake is better than any defender we have other than perhaps Laporte. Therefore we are stronger IMO.
I’m not convinced.

Steffan should hopefully put pressure on Ederson. Ake is putting pressure on Laporte and offers a more defensive option at left back.

Gundogan is likely to replace Silva, as he did for much of the latter part of last season, with Bernardo as the other option. It proved to be less than adequate last year for the most part. Foden covers Mahrez and unless Pep has a big shift in philosophy, he isn’t putting a young player in the middle of the pitch. Torres is the same as above for Sterling.

There are many unknowns here about our finances. If though we’re trying to be cute and save £5-10m to get a competent right sided CB then we’re stupid... when we’re spending similar sums on the equivalent of the football stock market signing young players that may or not make it with us and will spend at least a season in Girona at best or some obscure outpost at worst.

Sometimes football is about the here and now. Right now we need a competent right sided centre back. We needed one last year too. We’re certainly not better off there, particularly as we saw Fernandinho fall off a cliff last year.

It’s a big few weeks, but I can’t believe anyone in the club thinks it ideal that we don’t have our signings in place by now. There’s still time, but with margins so tight at the top of the league, I hope we don’t come to regret our inertia.

Next year everyone knows Aguero's contract is ending so they'll be asking for mega money for any striker we go for.

I bet Txiki is hoping there are some out there with a low buy out clause.

Only way we can bring players in at the moment.

We're not worse off either. We have the same CBs as last season plus Ake, so I'd say we're better off in defence. A RCB would be ideal and I suspect we'll sign one but even if we don't, I believe well be stronger than last season.
