I am sure behind the scenes the two clubs are negotiating hard, neither will want this to go on for long.

But I can't see our execs paying anywhere near 100m in transfer fees.

Angelino and Garcia is more than enough, if we are paying cash as well, then the deal is going to look very expensive.

Talk of 100m in a transfer fee is crazy!

Messi and Ronaldo have been the face of football for the last 10-15 years, that's an incredibly long time, sponsors must be looking for new faces. The Mbappe, Neymars,Felix, Davis, KDB and dare I say Sane's are where the new money will be going.
I'm sure sponsors are looking but they will always back the GOATs. If you look at the highest paid sportsman I am sure you will find Messi/Ronaldo, Tiger Woods, LeBron James and Federer well clear at the top of their sports. The greats are cash cows for sponsors

I suspect Barca want this to drag on for as long as possible. The board won't want to be remembered as the ones who lost Messi.

Tiger Woods is still the biggest draw in golf, Roger Federer the biggest draw in Tennis, Serena Williams in womens tennis as is Messi in football, these sports stars transcend their sport they are the geniuses of sport, the worldwide exposure and kudos of signing Messi will take the club to another level and the money will follow, every kid stil wants to be Messi.

No chance, they need players in quickly, new manager etc. This is hurting them badly , especially the board.

It's a good point on it hurting them. It probably needs to get worse though. I expect it will need to get to the point that he publicly complains. They want to portray him as the bad guy.

Again why do people care about how much is it going to cost the club? And besides wasn’t it always obvious that Mansour had wished to bring Messi to the club one day. I don’t think he cares if we have to pay 100m for the GOAT especially at a time where absolute mediocrity is going for 70-80m in the market.

I hope that does not happen, because there would be riots outside the Nou Camp and the board could be forced out, that's why compromises will be reached.

Angelino and Garcia in compo, great deal.

Remember FFP.

This is why I asked about the Webster ruling earlier because if he was inclined to do it he could come out looking like the good guy. If he explained to the fans that he didn't want it to end like this but he was left with no choice as if he left next season Barca would get nothing he doesn't want that so he will buy out his contract so the club can begin it's rebuild under Koeman. It could be added that he knows the club was offered money and players by City but due to Bartomeu's arrogance he would not accept this and would rather let Barca lose out on the better deal.
He wouldn't be lying from my viewpoint.
If such thing was possible barca would be the most foolish club/management in the world not to have thought about Webster rule. Why then put 700 million clause if player can buy out his contract for around 50/6o million or last year it would have been 100 million plus. After all player has to get ready to leave even if the buy out clause was met.

Why do fans need to consider FFP if our management isn’t bothered?
Ah, but they are bothered. Hence why the club try hard to comply ever since it came in.

Fined For failing FFP in 2014 - because Uefa moved goalposts after accounts submitted.

Fined in 2020 for uncooperation - because the club complied with FFP, got stitched up by UEFA, Then refused to cooperate due to stitch up.

No matter which board it is, nothing they can do if the player himself wants to move.
That's arguable. There's talk Messi might move on a free but then it becomes very high risk for the buying club (so much so that City would be unlikely to pursue this (could become liable in time for the full fee)), and there's also talk Messi could buy his contract out. That could be an option but I don't know if that is realistic. No one in the media has discussed it.

If this deal is to happen the most likely route is through Barca dropping their release fee. I think they would be stupid not to but who knows.

You’d need him to do that though, and it doesn’t look like that’s something he wants to do.

That doesn't mean we couldn't offer them a decent deal and use that as a take it or we will pay Messi to buy out his contract.
