I’d like to think we would have handled it with more decorum. The way we treated Zab, Vinny and Merlin was exemplary. However, those guys were greatly diminished assets in comparison with Messi. They weren’t leaving to join rivals either. I believe 700 mill is an opening position in the hope of achieving a much lower, but still substantial, figure from a European rival with deep pockets.If it was the end of the season & he had an agreement he could leave ? Just had a thought about this, if we were to bring in a left back would it be possible that Zinchenko could be a back up in midfield? I know people at the club like him and he seems a good lad and it might be a good way to play him somewhere more familiar to him

I do think we have an agrrement that when they wish to go we will let them like we have with Zabba and Silva and never really pushed them to remain, we could ahve cashed in even when they had a year left if we wanted to be greedy like Barca but instead allowed them to leave at the end for free.

If so, 100m plus players is far too great a sum, especially with wages on top and with 12 months remaining on his contract (not forgetting the can go free at the end of the season clause)
