Not going in for the test on Sunday means that he won’t be able to train on Monday, which is obviously in his contract. No intention to take the PCR test = no intention to train.

That means:

a) Messi buys his contract out, or
b) City sign Messi and then ride out a legal challenge regarding the release clause.

I haven't read the last few pages but as I thought these options were regarded as unlikely and that the likelier path was to hope that Bartomeu would compromise on realising that Messi was intent on leaving
