Well the truth is Pep did state that he thought Messi should stay and finish his career at Barcelona.
This was his response when asked last year. It was a classy response to avoid accusations of tapping up and maybe his personal opinion how Messi should end his career/legacy.
But that would have nothing to do with recent developments.

This is Messi wanting to leave and extend his career/legacy elsewhere.
It is also probably true that him leaving on a free is the only way the figures can be made to work.

The above headlines are just a mangled versions on the previous old statement, made to look like it was said recently.

he hasn’t been with the squad at all and that speaks louder than anything else. His father looks to be flying toward Spain as we speak. Anyone who thought his Dad wasn’t going to handle this directly was deluded. Of course he was, this is the biggest decision of his sons (and clients) career, making a change this far in was never going to be simple.
