The Internet is going to be awash with Messi stays overload.

If he wanted to stay, he would have given some statement to the media by now, looks like he's not going back from this and too many bridges have been burnt.

wow bits of negative reports cropping up all - even the MUEN are at it!

You would think that. Manchester based paper would be behind the potential move but seeminlgy not to the extend that every day there are articles stating why we shoudlnt go for him, te negative impact he would have on the team, how much he would cost (repeatedly mentioned in EVERY report) and now dredging up old quotes from Pep to fit their narrative..

Pond scum!

Well the truth is Pep did state that he thought Messi should stay and finish his career at Barcelona.
This was his response when asked last year. It was a classy response to avoid accusations of tapping up and maybe his personal opinion how Messi should end his career/legacy.
But that would have nothing to do with recent developments.

This is Messi wanting to leave and extend his career/legacy elsewhere.
It is also probably true that him leaving on a free is the only way the figures can be made to work.

The above headlines are just a mangled versions on the previous old statement, made to look like it was said recently.

stories about him staying are just impatience and attempts to keep people clicking.

he hasn’t been with the squad at all and that speaks louder than anything else. His father looks to be flying toward Spain as we speak. Anyone who thought his Dad wasn’t going to handle this directly was deluded. Of course he was, this is the biggest decision of his sons (and clients) career, making a change this far in was never going to be simple. Two decades of Messi’s life have been at Barca, he isn’t going to be rushed into a decision based on anybody else’s impatience. It’s fascinating.

You mean a fraudulent, fake transaction to evade tax? Yeah, they could do that.

I don't dismiss the possibility City just pay the tax - we seem determined to do the deal at any cost. But there has to be limits.

They can just promise him a Figure once he has retired from football like making him an ambassador there is always ways around it.

Yep that is a very good point and does sum up the current state of play

That is 100m per year ! That aint happening , we are not going to pay him that , if we are not paying kev that then a 33 yr old rocking up when we have already been successful expecting that would destroy squad harmony,i would be totally against that

Let's face it, Messi wants out of Barca, he phoned Pep saying he wants to leave and only wants to play for City, Messi has pushed for this he wants to come to us, not interested in any other club, he appears desperate to play for City..
So why the fuck are we offering to pay him €700m over 5 years, if he wants us so much we should pay him the same as Kev and Raz,

Yeah i get that and thats my point - our own local media twisting things to try and create a negative story - scum

I didn’t put up the tweet, I was being sarcastic because Bartomeu is in denial

Don't take it personally. I'm just having a bit of fun.
I've actually had to defend some low post count members who have got stick just because they aren't rushing to get a Messi tattoo etc.
I don't go off the odd negative post as that can be the City way.
Just some undercover Rags/dippers can be so obvious something has to be said.

I'm not sure what pisses me off more, people pretending to support City on a rivals forum.
Or the fact they don't even try hard to hide it.
Hardly need my Miss Marple hat these days!

Pep has made absolutely sure he can't be accused of anything dodgy re Messi coming here. Probably because he knew there was a chance Messi might end up here.

It’s clearly fiction. Equity would be an interesting possibility- very common but to gift it at the current price gives Messi and City a huge tax bill as it’s a benefit in kind so taxable at 45% plus NI. As for paying him €140m average over his 33rd to 38th year is a nonsense. It just can’t be true.

I assume that Messi has a corporation already set up in a tax haven to receive his image rights payments, like most PL players do.

Would that be a workaround for the 45% NI?

Absolutely everything?

He went on a 3 day "holiday" with his assistant manager to Barcelona the moment it all kicked off.
