It's Quiet thread 14 - 'do one' edition

Despite the opinions on this forum since he said he wanted to leave, Eric Garcia is one of the top CB prospects at his age.

He captained Spain's youth teams to multiple trophies, Barcelona were incredibly pissed when we poached him, the academy staff instantly thought he was special and made him u18 captain in his first season. Pep rates him incredibly highly and has done since the day he arrived, making him a fixture in first team training at 16 and giving him his debut at 17. He thinks he's better than Stones and Otamendi right now.

Luis Enrique made him Spain's youngest international defender since Sergio Ramos' debut at 18, and Barcelona are desperate to get him back.

So yeah, he's worth €30m. Everyone who's involved in coaching him or can select him thinks he's a special player, which is slightly more important than a few very angry posters on Bluemoon.

So we sit in anticipation then to see if Barca agree then eh

It had nothing to do with performance compared to any others we have had over the years

Pep, Juanma Lillo, Spain's youth coaches, City's youth coaches, Luis Enrique & co. disagree with your rating of the player. I don't know why you can't accept that.

I don't rate Gundogan in midfield over Bernardo, Pep is absolutely stuck on playing Gundogan though. I can accept that he must do something that Pep really appreciates that I don't see, or get. I'm not going to invent a conspiracy that justifies why Pep picks him and disagrees with me.

Despite that opinion of his worth from the club, I doubt we will see that amount achieved - based opon our past history of selling such players.
I think it's fair to give Txiki a pass on this one. Barca are broke and we're not exactly going to give them a cut rate deal after the Messi business. I'm fine if he just sticks around this year in case we need him.

I can accept it.

They all fast tracked him through the system.

I think it stinks.
Is Eric Garcia messing around with your sister or something? The level of dislike you have for this guy is really something to see.

If Garcia was Upamecano's size and for sale this summer there would be a 1000 page thread for him on here.

When you're inventing conspiracy theories to justify why they rate him and you don't, you're not accepting anything.

The only conspiracy theory here is that you have bigged him up to be the most fantastic young CB there has ever been, because Pep and Enrique say so.

But the debate here is the kid wants to leave Manchester City, that's all that matters on here, nothing angry about it,just a case of moving him on.

It's not a conspiracy theory.

He’s so intelligent. He guides the line incredibly well. A guy who is beloved, I know from his career at Barcelona, every single season he was the captain, nominated by his team-mates. That shows his personality. He doesn’t make mistakes and whatever he has to do, he does it properly. He listens and wants to learn all the time and therefore deserves to play. He communicates with his team-mates and he’s so young, just 19!”

No mention of actual defending.

His 'Beloved' wants to fuck off.

I accept they all rate him & have fast tracked him.

Maybe it didn't come across in my original post, I wanted to say that it is disappointing that the general theme is they had no interest in staying at all (specifics may vary from player to player). They all wanted to go back.

I understand the business aspect of it, don't know if the club wants to be another Chelsea, having loads on loans and sell for a small to decent profit. Some are happy are with that as I can see from your
post.

Me personally, would have wanted these players, especially Garcia to stay here and develop. We may say he may lack the physicality but Pep prefers over experienced intentionals which speaks volumes of his talent.

Rather have committed kids than those eager to leave in the 1st instant ( despite the Decent profit which at max is 20m)
I think we are definitely business orientated first, if you get a Foden then its a bonus.

I think the club recognises that Brahim, Garcia and Denis Suarez just dont have the ability to play in the prem and so we have moved them on. Garcia of course is different to this as things seem to be so far gone with Ota and Stones that Pep has no choice. If we had Ake and Koulibaly then Garcia would be nowhere near.

Don't forget pace & actual ability to defend.

I was asked exactly the same about Karim Rekik, strangely enough. He was better though.

I do wonder if Sheffield United have some ex Liverpool Football connections in their ranks
Was just listening to the Nedum Onouha podcast with Joe Hart and they were talking about perception and especially just how powerful the media is etc and it makes you think.

The media (full of rags and dippers) works overtime with the likes of Ibe, Solanke, Brewster, Welbeck and all the other shite that those teams have sold and I think it genuinely infiltrates clubs and they convince themselves they are world class and need to be bought.

Bournemouth genuinely must have thought something like, if Jordan Ibe is available he must be class because he has come through at Liverpool and so we have to buy him. Solanke is touted aas the best young striker and the scousers will let him go for 20m, what a bargain!

Tosin leaving doesn’t necessarily mean another CB is definitely incoming. In a stacked position of Laporte, ake, Stones, Garcia, Otamendi, Koulibaly maybe replacing one of those and then THB along with Fernandinho as an option, it’s easy to see why he’d leave.

I agree totally, but tbf, on this case, Brewster was decent in the England kids team with Foden & Sancho.

Perhaps that comparison is still in the minds of club scouts.

I am amazed that 15 months after Kompany left we’ve only identified Koulibaly, Carlos and Gimenez as replacements. One is owned by a club we can’t deal with, another is a penalty machine and the 3rd is slow, injury prone and plays in a completely different system. Are there no decent 25-27 year old defenders around in Europe?

So far this window has been utterly underwhelming. We finished miles off Liverpool and went out in the Champions League to an inferior Lyon side. We’ve barely dealt with the issues in the side at the start of last season, still no Kompany replacement but Ake is left sided cover and Ferran replaces Sané.

However we haven’t dealt with the issues we had last season- lack of pace in midfield, one injury prone left back and 3 players who will play there out of position and only 2 forwards one of whom has had regular injury issues. It looks increasingly like we won’t look to address these as Pep is in his final season. The downside is that Pep’s final season may yet be like Pellegrini’s (at least he had new signings in KDB, Sterling, Otamendi and Delph).

I know Covid is a major issue but we’ve had a director of football to avoid issues of succession planning but it looks like next summer we’ll be in even worse shape. New manager, Aguero will need replacing, still need a left back possibly 2 depending on Mendy’s fitness, new midfielder and that’s before any issues become apparent this season. We’re likely to have an older squad in transition comptetitibf wuth Real, rags, Liverpool, PSG in what will probably be a manic post Covid summer transfer window.

For a club that has been well run for the last few years it seems incredibly naive to be crossing our fingers and hoping that Messi will come next summer (spoiler he won’t- it’s this window or not at all).

Yeah I am being a bit harsh on Brewster, he looks a talent. A risk from Sheff Utd though, I guess they don't really have anyone else and they have looked at what Villa etc have done with people like Samatta and think that going abroad isn't worth it either.

I wish I had your guys' confidence in your scoting ability of a player you've watched 2.5 matches of, truly astonishing how maybe the best defender in la liga this season is now the reincarnation of ragnar klavan
