I noticed something about sterling last night. He was receiving the ball out wide and started checking. (term used for feet being jittery before receiving the ball).
So before he gets the ball he's already unsettled and not in control. He came on to the ball but he lost it within a couple of seconds. It's almost like he has to think what to do before he actually does it and that is causing him to be indecisive. In the centurions season everything came natural to him, it was effortless and he was immense that year.
Now he's just not the same and like tolm alluded to maybe he's peaked and this is the decline we're seeing, whatever it is it sticks out like a sore thumb.
He should have gone off last night not Phil, was a major bollock dropped by Southgate.

We also have to remember he has lost two major influences both on and off the field during his drop off?

Arteta was credited with him scoring more and Dave was the man playing that perfectly measured ball inside the full-back.

World class players do far more even in shit teams bud. Considering he is one of the more experienced players in the England team I would have expected more from him
That’s the whole point though. Sterling isn’t playing like a world class player at the moment. After one bad season it seems most are ready to fuck him off and make him the usual scape goat. For me he has earnt a bit more respect than many show him and I’d like to think he can get back to that level he’s shown prior to this season.

But that’s a massive financial gamble and one if it was my business I would not take

More than one season mate. For whatever reason, and it may just be coincidence, but he simply hasn’t been the same player since that bust up with Gomez while away with England in November 2019, and possibly even a little before that

People are advocating us spending 120 million on Kane and thats a far bigger gamble than keeping sterling for another season.

I also think there isnt a club in world football who would pay Sterling the money he thinks he deserves.

There is definitely a mental thing with Sterling and his confidence is absolutely shredded at the moment. Unless he gets that back then its hard to see him getting back to form. I'd just like City to persist with him one more season bacause if he can, he'll be a brilliant player for us again.

A CF who had possibly the worst game of his career....Kane reminded me of players in the past who were not fit, but had been pumped full of cortisone? Just to get them out there.
Kane is currently playing like a man who knows he’s going to end up seeing out his career at Spurs. That would depress anyone.

There is no doubt that when he is on it he is a huge asset. The difficulty with that is that in 12 months time he would have us over a barrel in terms of his contract. Do we stick or twist

The whole team were shite and I’m not sure that’s down to sterling.
There were at least 4 players worse that Sterling. I know he isn't great at the moment but I don't think the club will write him off. Unless it carries on into next season.
