Not according to the BBC report. He said we can’t afford it. That makes us look smalltime, whereas the Utd and Chelsea managers just said they wouldn’t talk about him as he’s not their player. Much better if Pep just said the same.

Now we have more negative headlines about us not being able to afford a new striker. Not the best image for a club of our stature.

Absolute fucking drivel

For the owners there is also the problem of perception.

We are in a world where companies are going under, people are dying, people are losing jobs, houses, everything they have.

The last thing they want to be seen doing is breaking transfer fee records with this as a backdrop.

They will drive a bargain, they will push as much as they can and they will not inflate the market - can you imagine the press if we did that? They can.

In other business ventures (non football) they have already pulled the plug on one take over as the perception was it was ‘taking advantage of the pandemic’.

Big things will happen this summer; but we are not being dragged through the press, being ripped off or setting vulgar standards in football when everyone is so pressed financially.

Agreed it seemed odd to show our hand.
Having said that I'm sure Haaland was coming out with something about his next club must prove they want him. I'm not sure but I think we acted in response to that.

Yeah I think we had to budge one way or the other. Hopefully it pays off. As someone on here said recently, it's not a bad life when Kane is a backup option :)

Sorry mate but that is just a silly over-reaction imo.

I suspect that we are fairly used to " negative headlines " when talking about the shite the media throw at us all the time . And using the rags and chelsea as yardsticks is pretty hilarious .

And we don't appear to be doing too badly in football matters despite the bitter cunts in the media collecting " clicks " at our expense.

Think he said @Guscruz chats nonsense or something along those lines..
In all seriousness, I think Pep is being a bit mischievous but I certainly wouldn’t rule out us not going big on a CF signing.
Same here, I’m chilled about things either way.

What you have to remember is flappers are going to flap, it’s all they know.
