If it was us, why didn't we wait until deadline day in that case?

All suggests to me that we activated plan B (Ronaldo?)
I suspect this. Levy was always going to sell eventually.

I don't think the club really anticipated Ronaldo being an option at this late stage.

It seems pretty obvious to call something off if the highest you're prepared to pay is rejected.

What would be the point of waiting until deadline day?
Because if we wanted Kane and Kane only, we had nothing to lose by letting our final offer sit on the table until the last possible minute

Circumstances could have changed. Kane could have pushed more, Levy could have been leaned on by the powers above, they could have been offered a genuine replacement etc etc

That would have been a high stakes gamble which could have left us without a striker. We now have a week to do a deal on someone else.

"Leaned on by powers above" There is no power above Daniel Levy. He owns 30% of the club, and Lewis has very little to no input in how it's run and is very unlikely to overrule his partner.

Why would anything change in the next 5 days when nothing's changed in the last 50?

Which is the point I'm making. A lot of people think we wanted Kane and if we didn't get him we'd go with what we've got

By us pulling out of the deal yesterday, I think that proves it isn't the case and we do have other options

Maybe we didn't know we had other option(s) until yesterday.... Ronaldo

The powers above would be whoever owns the other 70% ... or more importantly whoever they owe £1billion to

I'm inclined to agree with this, yes.

Said my piece on Ronaldo a day or so prior to the Kane collapse.

Will respectfully leave whatever accountability is desired on here to Sky Sports News and Twitter for the remainder.
Need a new song for my playlist soon!
