Any cause for optimism?

Anything except Haaland that is. We could Chuck the Kane money at some little known striker nobody has hardly heard of or give levy the 200m for kane that pep specifically mentioned in his press conference.

I'm surprised people still think we should have retained Kun.... Our execs are the absolute best in class and we have the best recruitment team in the world so if we haven't signed a striker yet it's with good reason..
I don't mind buying an established player as long as they really want to come to us, but neither Kane nor Ronaldo did. Our tradition of buying younger talent has worked so far for me, no need to change that policy.

Go with Delap, Torres and Jesus. Buy a new left back.

Kane definitely wanted us, not sure why you think otherwise ?

I'm not convinced given Pep's track record that Delap will get many minutes and Torres seems a fair distance away from being able to lead the line consistently. Jesus now looks a winger..

Whenever I see us have a set back I become philosophical. Above is the last page of the transfer thread. We have come such a long way, peeps should appreciate the players we have, not the ones we don't (or could have been).

There will be highs and lows forever, that's why we watch the fecking game.

Our squad is the world's best, and if necessity is the mother of invention I truly hope we invent Liam Delap as our new clinical finisher.

Cheer up all, massage your bruised ego's and let's look to the season with a swagger and a "fuck you" in our mouths :D

Agree on striker this window, but who now?
Talk was of striker this year, DM and LB next. Only suggesting that perhaps plans may get revised as I can’t see us spending top dollar on all 3 next year.
No idea.

Either a short-term signing that could do a decent job for a couple of years (like the rags got with Cavani for example), an up and coming younger player (someone perhaps like Vlahovic) or we go with what we have. I can't see us getting a big name striker this window.

Why didn’t city just bid for Kane what there max was tell sky the media that we bid and if we got turned down announce we have moved on! Is that to simple? It was it that like everyone was saying it was Kane or no one so they weren’t that bothered it dragged on for months?!

It sounded like Kane himself was convinced a deal could be done at close to 100 mil which turned out to be wide of the mark. There was also the potential problem of Levy not being able to buy a suitable replacement.

The phrases "at all costs", "just get it done" and "at any price" are overused in my opinion. City's a very wealthy club, but what makes us a well-run club is the fact that outgoings need to represent value for money. That includes - it particularly includes - multi-million pound transfers.

Our ceiling on what we are willing to pay for Kane, Ronaldo, Sanchez, Koulibaly etc. is a sign that we have an overall transfer strategy, and we are disciplined in sticking to it. That's a better indicator of the long term health of the club than just splurging money at targets.

Look at those four names above: are we still unhappy we didn't get Sanchez or Koulibaly now? No, we got other people in for less who have played exceptionally well. I don't see why that won't apply to Kane and Ronaldo in the future. It may even apply to Haaland - we shall have to see.

As fans we have a different relationship to our clubs' money and status than the club management, and that's fine. But we need to keep perspective that if we want our club to be well-run, it needs to stick to some principles. And City fans should know from bitter experience the consequences of not being a well-run club.
