One shot on target in the final and three in the semi final while not particularly being at our free flowing attacking best all season. There’s a reason our new centre back is up for every individual reward under the sun. Not saying we’ve been shit but I don’t think we’ll get away with going another season without a striker.

If you believe that we can go another season with a false 9 still and rely on Gundogan having the same goalscoring season with others chipping in so regularly again then fair play to you.

Personally I think we’re in dire need of one and, judging by some of Pep’s press conferences and Khaldoon’s end of season interview, so do they.

I also struggle to see where I said we’d had a shit season but there we are.

Couldn’t this be to do with end of season meetings, board meetings etc so naturally a lot of movement without anything to do with an actual transfer?

No, I was responding to your remark that us continuing with a similar set up to last season would be “criminal”, by pointing out that it was, in many ways, one of our most successful seasons . . ever - nothing remotely criminal about it.

I’m not saying that we shouldn’t look to improve in all areas - building on success is a logical progression, and Khaldoon’s signed up to that, but saying that it would be “criminal” to utilise the fantastically successful approach that we had last season is glass shatteringly high pitched exaggeration beyond the vocal reach of the shrillest of pantomime dames.

As I’m sure you’ll agree ;-)

PS. And I didn’t say that you said we’d had a bad season but, you didn't say that we’d had a good one and your saying that to go again in a similar manner would be criminal, certainly doesn’t lead the reader to presume that you managed to even crack a smile on the strength of that undoubtedly huge success.
