I got fucking pelters for calling out our poor approach to transfers.

They cocked up hugely here. If Haaland ends up at a champs league group rival with Messi and Neymar and united got Ronaldo we seriously need to ask questions about how naive our people are.

Ronaldo was such a knee jerk move from the get go. As I said elsewhere if we wanted a short term fix, Dzeko was there for a pittance.

We aren’t in for Haaland who grew up a fan.

We walked from Messi only to go to Ronaldo after banking on Charlie Kane’s business ability.

Mbappe won’t even entertain us.

Frankly this is embarrassing. There’s never ever been this many elite strikers available and we aren’t getting a sniff.

Rumours again about Nuno Mendes. Sad thing is it's the source - usually very good - that an hour ago said Ronaldo was a done deal. They are honest, of that I'm sure. Something has gone on with Ronaldo / is going on with Ronaldo. Will see what they say later on today. They might have been sussed and used spectacularly. It eventually happens to every ITK with real sources.
Rags MIB probably turned up at his gates at the end of the drive. They have form for it ;)

@mattyb warned us. Some got too carried away.
I’ve been barred from the Ronaldo thread for “wumming”, so I apologise for upsetting people.

When I said yesterday there will be a few upset fanboys, it probably wasn’t the right way to go about it, but I’m not going to apologise for bringing the news that it wasn’t happening.

People get so upset on here when you bring news they don’t want to hear.

Personally I’m delighted we’re not bringing him to the club, my opinions on him are very clear. Undoubtedly one of the best talents we will ever watch, but he’s an arrogant piece of shit that in my eyes resembles everything United are, and everything we are not.

I hate it that we don't buy the players we need when we need them. We'd rather just wait and keep the squad we've got. But the problem with that is players get older and we end up needing to replace multiple positions at once. Next summer we'll still need a striker, we'll still need a defensive midfielder and we'll still need a left back. And then we'll have other players in their 30s who may need replacing.

By the time we get our act together the next version of FFP will be in place and we'll be completely stuck. Chelsea have got the right idea - they go for players who they can get and want to play for them.

No, you got pelters for acting like it's Football Manager and if it was you you would just click you fingers and make it happen.

Got the impression that it was a striker. They're not exactly fucking Txiki and Soriano that messaged me so it's likely bollocks but thought I'd ask.
i highly doubt, there just isn't anyone out there worth the money.. except the one we just briefed we're not interested in!

Looks like an incredibly naive window. We have left ourselves without a senior striker on our books. We have failed to source a workable left back again for the 8th window in a row. We’ve bought a brilliant player to replace a player that apparently isn’t leaving. Incredibly poor planning.

Buts it’s not just that, we have allowed ourselves to get involved in 2 soap operas that end up with the club looking amateurish.

It’s incredible that a management team that have brought huge improvements in commercial revenue, created a superb youth academy, created the CFG and brought us to the top table of European football have consistently managed to look fundamentally unserious (to borrow a phrase).

So much of what makes a football club is intangible, what marketing people call brand identity or accountants call goodwill. That’s why it’s astonishing to me that City have managed to consistently mismanage PR. We constantly fail to manage our image properly. Somehow wanting to appear bigger than the snide attacks from gutter journalists. Showing great acumen by not overpaying for players. Showing we’re smarter than UEFA. In every case we’ve lost the PR battle.

Time and again big 6 friendly journalists have a pop at us, damaging our reputation. We ignore but the marks stay.

We won’t overpay, great, that way you constantly have discover gems because the best players cost money and there’s real competition. Refusing to overpay, seems to fundamentally misunderstand how other clubs see us. There’s a Leeds (or any average PL team) price and a big 6 price. Accept it, it comes with the territory. Look at Real it’s part of their brand. Buying galacticos. It works for them. They see themselves as European royalty. We seem to be embarrassed by our wealth.

We’ve managed to be on the outside of European football inner circle for years. Happy to be seen as astute but wealthy. PSG bullied their way in. Their boss now heads the European clubs.

We have stop trying to persuade the media and other clubs that we’re smart and astute and principled and start doing whatever we need to win.

We need a striker? Then be ready to pay for him. Some red top journo starts acting up? Then ban him and his paper. Know that UEFA are gunning for you? Sink the perpetrators, no one in European has clean hands.

We have succeeded because we have had good managers and a good DOF. We have scouted pretty well and assembled a great squad but when we need to fill holes we’re afraid to overpay. What happens when Pep leaves? How much better are we because of his management? We’re going to eventually find out and based on our current planning process we could be in for a very bumpy landing post Pep.

Time to grow up and accept that we’re never going to be the good guys. Too many scousers and rags in the media. We should do whatever we need to do to succeed on the pitch. We are a big European player, start acting like it.
