It's time to buy a new TV

I've always thought any thing over say a 32" screen is a bit 'common' unless you have a huge house. Most chavs seem to spend their lives sat on buy now pay later dfs sofas watching TVs that are as big as their horrid little houses. I think a discreet TV shows that there is more to your life than watching the box.

I also upgraded to Sky Q, and that's brilliant too.

Have you had any issues with it yet? Ours keeps freezing and we have to completely reboot the box. Happens at least 2 or 3 times a week and a google search told me it was a common problem with them. It's great when it works but they need to iron a few bugs out. I like the mini Q box.

Got a Samsung UE50KU6000 Brilliant smart TV great picture for football especially in sport mode, mind you with the OPs advancing years and failing eyesight it could all be wasted he maybe as well pricing up radio's and magnifying glasses.

My hearing is completely shot at so the radio remains a misnomer.
The Samsung series look very tempting and I currently err toward the 7000 or 8000 series as deffo selections but the 9000 curved jobbie is not to be dismissed lightly.

I may also reappraise the Panasonic 902 as I went to another store today and it was totally unmarked.
I think the Rochdale branch one must have been stroked scratched and mauled to death by all the frothing chavs.
I shall select five choices of the same size and these will be entered into the mele to do battle come black Friday.
The only deciding factor shall be the price deal achievable.

Here is the info on the Samsung 65 incher 7000 and the 8000 which is a 9000 series but just not bent.
You would have to anticipate a B.F mark down of at least £300 on both of these sets.

Now have a look at this 4k 65 incher from our Chinese chums coming with a 6 year warranty and a saving of over £1100 on the Samsung 65 incher 8000.
Kind of makes you stop in your tracks at the vast difference in pricing although I feel sure the Samsungs may edge out this Chinese delegate by a prawn cracker or two.

Not only is this set a 4k but it's an ultra and spouting HDR high dynamic range for outstanding contrast !
This extends the range of colours for enhanced realism. It also delivers brighter whites and darker blacks helping to give this TV stunning levels of contrast.

Does Hisense make good sense or is Hisense simply non-sense ? I will do more reading tonight and trawl the AV forums for more information

I am also looking to change my TV after about 8 years. My "problem" is that I've had a Philips and I love Ambilight. So I'm stuck on choice as Philips are the only ones with this feature. Mind you, it makes a nice change to have limited choice. Will probably get it towards the end of the year.

I am indeed advancing through the portals of time of that I concur however my vision remains as sharp as my minds eye.

What do you think cellar dwellers because you could effectively buy two of these and still have £300 change left over for a week in the Benidorm or a 20% deposit on a new DFS suite.

Not sure about them bendy T.Vs and if I put a 65" in our living room everyone's skin would blister off. besides the wife's use to much smaller things.

I'm also looking and was erring towards the flat Samsung 7000 or 8000 series at 55 inches. Not sure the screen curvature will add anything in my living room and not sure the 8 is worth it over the 7.

I must look at Hisense though. First noticed the brand in the Euro 2016 fan parks and the big screens there were of outstanding quality.

I enjoyed that.

In terms of your question, I have the Samsung 9000 series and its wonderful.

I will say, despite your 20/20 snipe, watch something in 1080p and then go watch it in 4K HDR and tell me you can't see a difference :)

About content at the end of the day. The vast majority of broadcast channels don't even broadcast in 1080p let alone 4k/UHD, I can still recall the push to buy 1080p TVs over 720p despite little change in available content over the past decade. I expect an even slower adoption to higher resolution broadcasts going forward which means the times you will appreciate it most is when you have some sort of media that is filmed in higher resolution.

Still, future proofing is always what tech companies want you to gravitate towards and probably why I will also seek out 4k/UHD set over the next 6 months. Truth is you are better off getting a good deal on a nice set with the options you need/desire now - rather than project the future as the technology will inevitably evolve as well. Me, I'd like a built in webcam for Skype as a key feature since using a laptop is never ideal with family

I now have three choices out of the five required.

Samsung 65 inch KS7000
Samsung 65 inch KS8000
Hisense 65 inch M7000

The tv man at Currys mentioned during our 45 minute chat that LG were very good and that there screens were the same used in the samsungs.
Just a perceived lower brand name than samsung has for less money but lg are a very good call indeed.
Once way back in the day we bought a tesco branded telly under it's own umbrella name.
Never heard of it but it lasted 7 years. One day it stopped working so being poor I took a screwdriver too it to see if I could resolve the issue.
Imagine my consternaion when the main components were all stamped Hitachi.
A lot of the big boys used to do this making tellys under non brand names for third parties.

The bloke from a panasonic only broker was the one that told me LG had perfected the art of reasonably priced 3d screens and most of the majors were using them.

Regardless they had a service where a engineer would come round and *tune the screen to its optimum for your house instead of having the defaults that are "best guess"
