Jacinda Ardern

There is no issue with criticism in a constructive manner. There are, however, a group of journalists whose consistent target are women. Here, we have an honourable politician who is now the target, and has been the target, of those same journalists, and others.
Whooooooosh

Absolutely not and I’ve never said it is. Check the threads out on them and I’m equally critical.

What irks is the claims of misogyny to try and shut down criticism and debate when it suits.

Her party is tanking as has her own ratings so the good people of New Zealand are not happy with her.

Pointing that out does not make me a misogynist.

What debate that you want to have about Jacinda Ardern is being shut down?

Did someone say you were one?

It’s ok for us to do it but not you……
I don't know what's happened to you over the past few weeks mate but you've seriously lost the plot!

Fact is that if someone is acting like a **** - regardless of where they stand on the political spectrum - then they deserve to be called out for it.

Whooooooosh
I didn't know what that meant so I added to my post, just in case there was a lack of clarity:

There is no issue with criticism in a constructive manner. There are, however, a group of journalists whose consistent target are women, especially young women in positions of power. If they lean to the left, then they get an especially hard time from those journalists. Here, we have a seemingly honourable politician who is now the target, and has been the target, of those same journalists, and others.

So many people have such frail ego's when faced with a popular successful politician - if that politician is a woman then their levels of hurt go off the charts

Errmm she's apparently not that popular at all, if only Thatcher had the same minstrels singing her song ;)

Nothing has changed for me, just sick to death of the hypocrisy on display

It’s not hypocrisy to think Suella Braverman and/or Priti Patel are disgusting and evil people because of their shared xenophobic, murderous and illegal policies while also thinking a bunch of people despising Jacinda Ardern because of reasons they can’t specify is misogyny.

You’d like to pretend it’s the same, but it’s not.

Ultimately she was just okay, she could have been transformative. Her first term was hampered by being in coalition with a dinosaur, but when she won the next election with an overwhelming majority (in an MMP format) I had high hopes.

To be fair to her, she has dealt with a lot; having a baby, a deadly volcanic eruption, a deadly terrorist attack and a global pandemic. Her decision is understandable, the amount of abuse she's been getting from the ever increasing number RW nut jobs over here relentless.

I imagine a successful career at the UN awaits, and for managing the pandemic arguably better than anyone else, she leaves with my thanks and respect.

My fear now is a Right Wing coalition victory at this years election and we see the same type of politics/politicians you are being served up with in the UK.
Think you got it about right albeit she locked down for too long IMO but we probably won't know how the health information she based some of these decisions on was derived despite the royal commission however I am glad that at least she announced one and I hope its thorough because we cannot lock down again especially for long periods.

Of course the deaths from Covid continue and I am a little surprised the death rate in NZ will likely end up higher than Australia but again the state with highest number of deaths and death rate in OZ happens to be the state I live in which was locked down for the vast majority of time more so in hard lockdown than any other state and I don't think its a coincidence.

The nation appears to have turned on her government and relatively quickly and she is leaving at the right time IMO to give her replacement some time to change some of her more radical agenda to give Labour more of a chance come Oct.

I really liked her.
The public’s main concerns right now things like food and fuel prices, rental and home ownership costs, and the effects of the Omicron outbreak are beyond the direct control of any political leader. And many countries are experiencing the same difficulties.

Some of the abuse she has received on social media is disgusting and calling her Cindy and The Pretty Communist shows a lack of respect to her person, and a woman seems to engender deep hatred from some segments of society when things go a bit pear shaped.
It's a pity they've forced her out.
The world needs more caring politicians imo.
I think she will be missed.

This aged well?

Did it not?

She won back to back elections, was in power for 6 years, is the most popular NZ prime minister in history, and has chosen to leave on her own terms at a time that helps her party instead of clinging on to power.

Reading the local coverage she’ll be remembered for dealing with 3 of the worst crises in NZ modern history very well, and they’re a country that lurch from one party to the other pretty regularly so it’s not a surprise that the Nationals have pulled level after 2 terms of Labour.

She raised NZ’s profile a lot on the international stage so it’ll be interesting to see what she does next.

less than 2,5k Covid deaths.......... how many did Johnson and Hancock allow to die again ?

Her party is tanking in opinion polls and her own rating has never been lower.

Political life is tough, that’s why she is going.

It won’t stop you and others turning this into yet another thread where nasty people are being all misogynistic though.

Meanwhile you and others are happy to pile into other female politicians without even a hint of self awareness.
Remind me what you used to call diane abbott

You can’t read can you?

I’ve no issue in the criticism or language used on here, it’s the staggering hypocrisy on display from many, including yourself.
