That happens at City already mate so you are telling us nothing new. We are still disappointed.

Did you see Denis Suarez scoring for Barca the other night. Is that what we should get used to?

Suarez is nowt more than squad filler who wasn't cutting it and didn't want to stay, and it's still taken him 4 years.

nothing to be disappointed about imo, we don't miss a single youth we let go.

Good luck Jack, decent player and I can see him being a very good Championship player. Hopefully he goes on to even establish himself at a decent prem club.

Denis Suarez didn't want to be here, Kieran Trippier left in the Summer of 2011 and took 4 years before he turned up at Spuds. He's played a total of 10 times this season (just 3 in the PL for a total of 101 minutes). The whole of last season he played 19 times (just 6 in the PL).

If they're the only two you can come up with then I'd say City are actually getting things right.

Where's your examples of players who have come through the ranks in the last decade and established themselves in the first team.

I'll give you another example. Kasper lifted the Prem trophy last season. Yes he wanted to be nunber 1 and Joes was in his way so there are mitigating factors.

It's the decade question that hasn't been addressed.

I said at the outset that it was pressure on our managers that hindered opportunities for homegrown players so other posters saying I'm just knocking the club are missing the point.

It's not a "pretty poor effort" IMO, you need to understand that now youngsters at City need to be potential CL quality to get near the first team squad. Pre-takeover the odds of an Academy youngster making it at City were slim and even then we were one of the better academies. The bar has been raised significantly since the takeover and it's getting even harder for youngsters to graduate to a first team spot. We do seem to have some great prospects in the current U16/U18 teams so fingers crossed a few of them will make it.

Why do they have to be CL quality? Are you telling me that someone like George Evans (who’s now playing for the team 3rd in the Championship) couldn’t have come on as sub in a league game we were comfortably winning? Brandon Barker should have been given a chance towards the end of the 14/15 season when he was flying in the EDS and we had nothing to play for in the league. And there was a league match against Palace a couple of years ago in which we were 3-0 up and Pellegrini brought on Demichelis to play in midfield for 10 minutes instead of giving Thierry Ambrose his debut. Maybe those players would turn out not to be good enough, but at least they would have been given a chance.

Four years mate. Harry Kane went out on loan at different clubs for a couple of years. Injuries and the Europa League forced Spurs' hand to give him a chance and they've given chances to a few other players since.

Ion answer to your question. I would happily have Kasper in goal now. Wouldn't you?

I think when you look at our youth CMs, you can see why we have let him go. A. Garcia is a much better player and even he can't get in our team consistently and he has looked class everytime he played.

I take your point about Suarez but why have we failed in developing attacking midfielders through our ranks. Puzo and Lopez are other examples of very highly rated players. There must be an issue with the coaching that hopefully is now being addressed so for example Brahmin (and others like hime) have more of a chance in future.
Pozo suffered through missing nearly a year of his development with a bad knee injury, that could have easily set back his prospects. Lopes I had high hopes for but judging by what's happened since he left City he may have been one of those youngsters who matures quickly and stands out in his age group but doesn't progress much further.

Good points Lancs Blue. It was a bit alarming with Pozo that after having a few games in the first team, he doesn't look like a standout player in the youth team anymore.

I was chatting to an ex City player on Friday who got his debut in a big cup tie. He felt there too much pressure on our manager(s) for them to be able to give homegrown players a run in the first team.

I'm still waiting on examples from yourself where City have demonstrably messed up. Suarez, Trippier, Sturridge & Schmeichel have all been ruled out for one reason or another (some by yourself), I might add that I disagree with the poster who thinks they have to be CL quality to get a chance but I'm still struggling to see who else fits the bill.
