It's always disappointing when an academy prospect moves on. You have to ask though (and I don't know the answer to this) why did he make virtually no impact at Blackburn if he's good enough to be part of City's first team squad? If he'd performed really well at Ewood Park and we'd recalled him just to sell him on without a first team opportunity then I'd be pretty pissed, but to recall him when he's failed to perform at Championship level and then sell him on m not as bothered by. He's 20, he's not made an impact at a lower level so perhaps selling him on was the sensible approach. Angelino is another who needs to make a real impact these next 6 months at Mallorca, otherwise he could find himself surplus to requirements in the summer.

Exactly my point, Angelino also has no future here. He is being passed around Spanish clubs to impress and sell on and isn't impressing at all at the minute.

Tbh I don't have much faith in bringing youth through when Iheanacho has gotten less minutes this season than last and we're playing Zabaleta in midfield of Garcia.

It's not all that strange considering his last 6 months, however, he's the sort of player you have sat in your squad, capable and grasping the bigger picture... The scum did this for years with players like fletcher, welbeck, Gibson et al, they were no superstars but a much needed part of the squad..... Put it this way, I'd sooner see a Byrne than a delph!

Than a Delph?

Delph has a serious chance to prove himself in the final 5 months of the season and I genuinely think his experience and energy will offer us something
He was captain at Villa and was their best player by a mile, would Byrne even get in the villa squad? Probably not

Why say something like that when the two are totally incomparable

It is a shame Byrne couldnt cut it or get the chance at City, but hes a million miles from where we are right now; hence Blackburn and Wigan taking him on

Good post, and I totally agree. Its disappointing, but ultimately we over rate most of our youngsters. If Jack had been anywhere near what Pep wanted, he wouldn't be going to Wigan, its not like we need the money these days.

If he had something about him he would have been snapped up by one of the other premier league teams. At 20 years old and a cheap price he would be worth a punt but they obviously decided he wasn't. I hope we include a sell on/buy back clause in all the youngsters we move on as some are late developers.

Is there really this much surprise and fury that Jack Byrne has left?

The fact that he couldn't get into a struggling Blackburn side and has now moved to a struggling Wigan side should tell you everything you need to know! The way some of you go on it'a like we've just lost Iniesta in his prime.

No where near good enough for Manchester City and a three and a half year contract at a Championship club at heart is a fantastic move for him, the best of luck to him.

Where's the fury? Is he with his brother Tyson?

Why are you surprised that fans are disappointed that our youth system has failed to deliver a first team regular in a decade?

Also, would it be surprising that coaching in the Academy set up might be improved by more committed staff seeing some of the lads they have helped make the first team. Our coaches will be good but it's not so long ago that some deserted to join the rags. Hardly a sign of a very happy ship.

Jack Byrne going I can live with, if Tosin departs that would evidence some problems in the Academy.

Nope, he plays for a team that is the antithesis of how pep wants to play, wrong attributes.

If we were at the stage of all of foden, brahim, sancho etc leaving then I'd be worried, they're a different calibre to what's gone before

Therese lads are huge talents but If they are as good as Harry Kane I will be impresseed. Walker and Rose would walk into our team and suit Pep's philosophy. Spurs have attributes Pep wants so we no have Gabriel Jesus who matches the work rate of Son but will hopefully be more prolific.

I have noticed this word "gotten" being used a few times now on this site. This is now almost exclusively used in American English as a past participle of "get". It is a word, when used by British people, that really irks me. So, come on people, stick to the correct word that this country solely uses in this context - "got".

Trippier has something about him and he wasn't snapped up by a Premier League team when he left us either, and Kasper Schmeichel left us to join a League Two team. Signing for a team in a lower league doesn't automatically mean a player is crap.
