Jack Grealish - Everton on loan

The press, backed by some of our Pep hating City fans are desperate for Jack to do well for Everton to prove the evil Pep Guardiola wrong. All very strange to me. It's same with Cole Palmer.
Positive stories about Manchester United and Liverpool generate more clicks.
Negative stories about their rivals generate more clicks.
This narrative is more than a decade in the writing.
The same people who said that Pep could never do it in the Premier League.
The same people who headlined KDB Chelsea Reject.

To listen to some City supporters they would rather City were coached and managed by David Moyes than Pep Guardiola. That's how weird some of their views are. The steady drumbeat of negativety with regards to Pep from some Blues is weird, I have a mate that hates Pep and wants him to fuck off, all very strange to me.

For Pep, the whole team is it. It functions as a whole. Everyone works together as a whole.
When people bemoan the loss of Villa Jack, they bemoan the loss of the main man, the maverick, pulling the team up by its boots and being the team super-hero. It's Roy of the Rovers complex. We don't have them. We have a cabinet full of trophies and record-breaking points and goals tallies. My full respect to Everton and Villa, but they do not. If Jack needs what they offer at this point, so be it.

I hate to say it but I agree with them. Fuck the trophies, get a manager who is ready to play Jack in his natural position and if that position doesn't work, then try the other natural position

There is a massive myth about Pep and mavericks, you only have to look at some of the players who have played under him to know that. Remember Pep could only win with Messi possibly the biggest maverick of them all

He is still playing on the left though like he was at Villa and City. He isn't good enough for City simple as or he would have nailed down a starting spot for us . Jack only has himself to blame. I've got to say fuck the trophies is a strange quote.

Pep loves skill, absolutely loves it, but you must do it within the context of the team.
I supported Jack throughout his time with us and felt he was treated unfairly by some fans.
I do not know what went on behind the scenes, if anything did.
It is also about how the player feels about himself. At Everton, Jack will feel like he is the best, the most gifted player on the team. He will be a hero because of what he can do. At City, for a while, he marvelled at what others could do. He found his place, earned a load of trophies, but was never the big man. Some need it, to feel that purpose and that value. I feel that is the story with him. I will never know for sure, but a feeling I have.

Messi is a bit of an outlier. He is arguably the best of all time, so he earns some sway, and his work-rate was relentless during Pep's time. Ronaldinho is more of an argument. Possibly the most naturally gifted I have ever seen, but an individual, a maverick, and gone from Pep's plans.

The British press is ALL about the individual. They talk of games being manager Vs manager, or player Vs player, and far less about the functioning whole. They carry a lot of the responsibility for how low the English game sank on the international stage, IMO.

Ronaldinio would have been in Peps plans, but his constant partying and leading Messi into bad ways meant he had to leave Barca. He is probably the most gifted footballer anyone has ever seen but you can't have him coming into training and then having to get his head down in the changing room because he got home at 5 o'clock in the morning. Apparently he was doing this everyday. Pep was right to get rid of him as he was proven to be with the team he built. It had nothing to do with anything he did on the pitch.

Living the life is a part of being 'the whole team'.
It is about work on the pitch, and off it. It is about integrating, setting examples, and understanding that you are just one in the machine. On the pitch, you do what is instructed.
My feeling is that Jack needs to feel like he is more.
I worry for him at the end of his career.
I hope he manages to cope with a life without the adulation.
I am pleased that he has started well at Everton, but I cannot stand how it is used as a stick to beat us with - it is the press who needs mavericks more than any team does.

Who'd have thought playing a player in his preferred position, giving him free reign, having confidence in him, would yield positive results.

Jack is doing what Jack does; making goals for others. Some Blues seemed to think that for £100m he was supposed to get 40 goals a season or some bollocks. Jack doesn't get them, he sets them up!

Our Loss is Everton's gain.
Yeah but he didn't set them up enough.

Jack is a really good footballer, nobody is denying that, but I believe his major problem at City is that he didn't really believe enough in himself , imposter syndrome if you like. He was too much in awe of the likes of KDB. He needs to buckle down and get his career back on track. He's made a good start at Everton and deserves to have a really good end to his career it just won't be with us.

He is playing on the left he isn't in a new position.
