Jack Rodwell

I don't think you can blame any footballer for picking up wages they are offered. What do you expect them to do?

When he moved to us I thought he would do ok but he would have been a squad player at the time and in reality we were always going to be adding to that squad so he took on a challenge and then got injured and never really got back in contention. So no surprise in the end he left with little having been achieved.

The Sunderland saga is the most remarkable bit. I haven't followed what went on in detail but they were a dross outfit which makes you think did that have a negative effect on him at a time when he needed to build confidence? Who knows what went on?

Hope he does well at Blackburn.
When interviewed, Coleman said ‘I don’t know where he is’ when asked about Rodwell. Some took it as he didn’t know where he was mentally, whereas others took it as he literally didn’t know where he was - at a time the club needed him.

I like Coleman. No idea what he meant or was going on there. It doesn't look good.

I’m sure our resident Black Cat, @Stockport mackem will be able to provide some insight from a Sunderland point of view., but I was quite pleased when we signed him from Everton.

He turned out to be a white elephant and only had one decent game; the one against Norwich, in which he scored both our goals, though I thought he would kick on the next season and become an integral member of the squad.

Sadly, for both City and Rodwell, it never happened.

Huge waste. I thought we’d hit gold with this kid. Seems he’s happy picking up huge wages with very little in return. Injuries can be blamed so much, but they don’t account for his portrayed attitude. Shit career. Nice bank balance. He’s used football for his own personal gain without giving anything to the clubs he’s played for. He’s not the first, and he won’t be the last.
Says it all. Terrible waste of talent coupled with some bad luck and a poor attitude.

Rodwell always came across well during interviews to me, I suspect the perception some have that he wasn’t up for playing for Sunderland is wide of the mark, as for him collecting his large salary, good luck to him, I’ve been stealing a living at work for years :-))

It is fact his hamstrings were really affected by the way his body grew,he tried everything when he was with us to help himself, what he ate,how he was driving, yoga etc, maybe he just got really down at sunderland when he continued to be injured,he might have got depressed,i know he had relationship probs with is long term girlfriend/wife,we are too quick to slate young footballers and say they have a bad attitude when we don't know the story. It is also fact that the contracts they get are agreed by both parties and all this he should forfeit money and walk away from millions owed is ridiculous
