Jadon Sancho

Ultimately yes, but losing a talented genuine Academy product like Foden would be different. Sancho saw there was no room in the squad for him, so left. It happens to all teams eventually.
Yeah but you know how the press work. For their column inches he’s a city academy product who left the club with that 5star grade academy because we bought ready made players, making the academy pointless. That’s the spin, because that’s what rival fans will use as the football banter dig anyway, as we would if it was another club who had been given what we’ve been given, all singing all dancing academy and campus - only to see a genuine prospect leave. Goes with the territory of football banter rivalry.

PS. I don’t think the academy is pointless btw. Just stating the spin.

It's not anti city that he's become such a big story, there's a lot of factors at play. It's so rare to see an English player go abroad and make an impact and pretty much unheard of at such a young age. England's performance in the world cup has left a lot of people hungry for success and desperate to see a couple of creative players emerge who can help address the deficiencies in the England side and push them onto the next level. Plus Dortmund making a good start to the season and Bayern Munich have a few problems has captured a few imaginations. Dortmund have historically been quite a fashionable club amongst English fans so seeing and English teenager playing such a pivotal role in what could their reemergence is going to get people talking.

Even though I understand why he left I don't really blame the club and I'm not sure what we could have done to keep him. I think we'll see a lot more of the big clubs losing top prospects in the next few years as times have changed and they can't always give them the minutes they need. Don't think anyone is asking questions of City any more than they would about anyone else. We all had a good laugh when United bought Pogba back for silly money.

As long as we don't buy him back for a world record fee and he turns out to be a useless dabbing clown, we'll still be able to put raggy morons in their place.

Spot on but they do it to most clubs. United sold Pogba then paid a fortune to bring him back. Mourinho didn't fit Salah or De Bruyne into his Chelsea side, nor Lukaku. Imagine how good a team that might be had he kept them. The academy will generally be used as an income stream. 10m for a young player is a great profit for the club and secure income from other young players and you have made enough to buy a very good player with more experience. If you can secure a buy back clause or percentage of any future sale then even better.

Pep knows Foden is an exception because he is a blue. It was a huge part of Barca having academy players from the area come through and he knows the importance of Foden making it at City. Every City fan wants Foden to stay and succeed even if all other academy prospects end up leaving. Because he is one of us it means more. Sancho was not a City fan and although we wanted him to stay you cannot blame him. He would not have played many minutes had he stayed and would be nowhere near the England squad. The move he has made has worked out well for him and should Dortmund sell him it will probably be for 40m which sees us secure more money if we have a sell on clause. Will he eventually be better than Mahrez? Probably but right now, regardless of that penalty, Mahrez is the player Pep felt we could rely upon to take us to that next level. When Sane and Jesus are still developing you need someone who has consistency. I would have loved to see us gamble on Sancho, particularly as Mahrez hasn't justified his price tag yet but come the end of the seaaon we will know whether we were right to buy Mahrez or wrong to not give Sancho that opportunity instead.

Agree just hope we have first option at least
For £100+ mil as Dortmund is reported to want to sell him for, really? I am just not buying this Sancho thing at all. I would prefer we do business with Monchi for Cengiz whom I consider better all-round player - and would still end up with enough change to invest in a DM.

He ain’t going for 100m unless he rips up trees in the next 2 seasons.
