I can’t believe that people on here think the Club made a mistake with this guy. We wanted him to stay, made him an incredibly generous offer for a 17 year old and had him training with the first team.

He decided (or more likely had his head turned) that he wanted out and contractually there was nothing we could do.

There Is no doubt he is a real prospect but there are no certainties in football. I am reminded of another young man who we really wanted to keep but felt he would do better away from the the Club. Didn’t work out quite as I’m sure he planned it for Daniel Sturridge did it ? He had so much potential and to some extent played to it before injury set him back.

We made a mistake with him. Some people can't criticise or take any criticism of the club, but the pathway from youth team to first team leaves a lot to be desired.

No. We chose to provide our terms and he made a choice. (Basically everyone made a choice.)
There’s no right or wrong, as no-one can really predict the future...
He did what he thought was best for him and good luck to him.
If he turns into a global superstar, we may get a nice slice...we may even buy him back at some point. We may not want him to come back...or he may not want to come back...
What we do know is that he has seen the inside of what we can offer, and with the exception of where he is now, has seen the current outside of what others can....

He will make future choices and I’m fairly sure that whatever they will be, we will continue...so assuming we aren’t aiming for Jesus-like perfection in our transfers, no big bollocks dropped anywhere at this point.

It isn't all that long ago that Michael Johnson, Stephen Ireland and Micah Richards were being touted as the next big things of the future but sadly it didn't really work out that way. You never can tell in this game so I won't be losing any sleep over Sancho. He may go on to have a good career but I don't think that German football will test him as much as he'd be tested here.

Truth is if he was still at City he wouldn’t be playing but why is that a “negative”. He’s not better than the players we have & to get in he has to become better, striving to improve every part of his game.
I hope it works for him & it can seem he’s made the right choice but just to add context to the media angle that he’s made the right choice & Foden hasn’t.

Foden : Plays & trains with better players & the worlds best coach.

Was allowed to represent England in u17 World Cup, winning & experiencing tournament football.

Was an integral part of league cup run which culminated in winning a trophy & experiencing a major final.

Part of premier league squad, playing small part but experiencing a title win by being involved.

Slowly getting more & more experience without pressure whilst improving his game.

Out of that U16/18 team I’d put him maybe ahead of Diaz but not ahead of Foden.
I always thought Foden was the most Citylike prospect we had. Mature beyond his years with a Silva like map of the whole game in his head.
I think Sancho is similar to Sane in ability but perhaps if he stays, Diaz will prove to be more capable of a central role than Sancho.
Who knows. They are each extremely skilled. I hope Diaz stays and takes the chances that come his way.

Another element to take account of is the cultural fit.
Sometimes people recognise where they can grow best and adjust accordingly.
Some realise that certain situations are not for them.
As long as they carry on regardless,they will ‘succeed’ in one way or another. Getting stuck in the vicious circle of wishing for what could or might have been is the sure way to despair.

We were also told Pep and Txiki considered Laporte as "persona non grata" yet they spent £57m on him eleven months ago.

We weren't told that by Pep, saying Laporte won't play for City whilst he is manager, because Laporte "didn't want to play for us".

That's what he said re Sancho.

I watched that press conference and I don't think it was that black and white at all. I took it as Pep saying, "listen he we wanted him here last time and he didn't want to stay so who knows?". As in, yeah maybe he could but even if we wanted him he needs to want us as well, rather than there being no chance because he snubbed us or whatever.

Well the quotes I read, Pep said "not while I'm here".

If this was made up, then fair enough, but that's what I read.

Watching a 're run of the game this morning, I was left with more questions than answers.

What a shame pep isn't coaching him.

Spot on.

He isn't better than Sterling or Sané at the same age.

Whether he becomes better, we will have to see.

The mistake came before Pep even arrived, by creating an environment where it became almost impossible for most kids, no matter how well they played at their own level, to get even 5 mins in our first team.

We had about 3 team's worth, none of whom would have let us down, even if they never played more than 5 mins each. And about ten more who could have played at a pinch.

Recently, we have regularly played a young, slow, centre mid at fullback.

We had 20 players who could have played, in the right games, without being 'found out' & would have given us a rep as a place to stay, if you want to get exposure.

Some of us, predicted this, years earlier.
