James Bond Films. Are They All That?

Some of them very good, some very mediocre. The early Connery ones were excellent, then it seemed to lose it's way under Moore. They went a bit too comedic at times. Dalton was a bit meh. Brosnan was a marked improvement (Goldeneye was top notch) and Craig has brought the grittiness back to Bond. Casino Royale is a very good film and Skyfall is one of my favourite Bonds. We'll skip over Quantum of Solace!

I'm a big Bond fan, but you've got to watch the movies for what they are: a couple of hours of action packed fun. I think some of the films (specially the Roger Moore run) haven't aged well, so keep that in mind. You can always start with Goldeneye which is probably the best of the Brosnan films.

As for the current run, while I like Craig in everything else, I have a hard time liking his Bond. I think Dalton did the same much better. Casino Royale was very good, he had some great actors to help him carry it, but I can't forgive him for taking a wine glass from the bowl. What happened to the Bond that knew so much about claret?

Skyfall was really great, but my perception may be skewed by Bérénice Marlohe.

I love 'em, especially the Craig ones. Well, 2/3rd's, Quantum of Solace was poor. Great refresh from the Brosnan's, which I found fun in their own cartoony way. Most Bonds have all bought something different which is a huge reason they're still going on so many years later.

I used to love On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Mind, I was about 10 years old when I saw it on television. George Lazenby gets overlooked but probably because he was terrible.

Casino Royale is my favorite. Like others have said, if you take them as mindless fun they are not bad and can be very entertaining.

I've never seen one.

The clips I saw on TV, speedboats flying through the air, car chases etc were enough to let me know they weren't my type of film.

However, I did get the Aston Martin James Bond ejector seat Corgi toy when I was about 7 or 8, and I won £100 on the City Moonraker scratchcards in approx 1980.

The three new films have all been shite,Skyfall was bollocks and this sums up Casino Royale for me....

I was brought up with them and remember going to the Odeon in Bury in 1966ish to watch the double header of Thunderball and Goldfinger.

At that time life was pretty grim. I can remember my late father walking to Bolton and back from Ramsbottom to try and get a job.

So the Bond films brought a little bit of escapism to life. Also back then no-one went abroad and the Bond films were always filmed in exotic locations. I've always enjoyed them apart from a couple of Roger Moore ones in the late 1980's.

I believe first day of filming is this weekend and can't wait for it to come out. I think Craig is an excellent Bond and portrays the character very well according to the novels which are dark and gritty.

Can't wait for it to come out next year.
