I used to listen to him in the eighties when he had a late phone in show. I used to travel back fom nights out in the car and sit on the drive thinking one more caller and I'd be there till 2am it was so entertaining.
He'd be ideal for a job on Talk Sport around tea time to get rid of the odious Durham.

On the video Up U Man U he is funnier than Bernard. I met him once & told him I thought this & he was proper modest. Nice really funny guy.

About a month after COMS opened my dads works had a corprate do there and the guest speakers were james h reeve, buzzer and peter barnes, my dad invited me and England were playing that night, after all 3 spoke they put the match on and nearly all the staff left, so on my table we had me, my dad, james h reeve,barnes and buzzer
We had a really good chinwag for about 3 hours with them, buzzer and barnes were telling city stories and james h reeve was cracking jokes.
It was a night i will never forget and it was brilliant all 3 were tops blokes and at the end of it we were all pissed!!!

Although I am in fulsome agreement with many comments about James H the Legend on here...unfortunately I think he scuppered his chances of being employed by the Auntie Beeb after his stint on GMR in more recent years.
(Google the 'stalking' story which I think got him sacked)
I listened avidly however on Key103 when the likes of Irate Albert and Jimmy White rang in. All legendary stuff. That's when we had proper radio though (I'll second that Emap have created a monster of chart crap and Smashey and Nicey DJ pap).
Shame he doesn't have a proper outlet and I'll stick my neck out and say he pisses all over James Stannage. The two of them couldn't really work on ManchesterRadioOnline as their style of show is obviously the same.
