Don’t see him getting us any closer to champs league but he’s a good hard working player
If he's not going to get us any closer to the CL (I agree, btw), then why the fuck should we be going for him? It's precisely these kind of players we need to be avoiding. We need to be going for the best young footballers as we build again.

Someone hit the nail on the head before, this is the kind of player we'd be going for back when we looking to break top four, and making initial strides. We've outgrown players of this standing; just reeks of another Phillips.

I'm hoping it's just unfounded gossip.

I think that prices him out of a move, I reckon 70-80 mil, but you never know.

Didn’t realise Maddison was last year, so maybe 40-50 if they stay up.
I agree, don't think he moves. And yes Maddison should be decent value if we go for him.

I really like him as a player, ever since I saw him at Norwich. Smooth.

Anything south of £50m would be very good value in the current market.

Saying Maddison would be "just another Phillips" as if Phillips has not been good enough and not just been injured the whole time and barely had a kick...

Maddison could only be another Phillips if he doesn't play. And his injury record, while a concern, is nowhere near as bad as Phillips'.

If a player is English and plays for an unfashionable club they are always "overrated" and "the next Rodwell, Sinclair or Phillips". Ignoring every successful English player, and the fact that every successful English team had a number of English players.

Gareth Barry, Raheem Sterling, Jack Grealish, John Stones, Kyle Walker. Even Delph, Milner, Lescott.

What a bunch of average players...

Similar to Grealish a big fish in a small pond, when they arrive in the ocean they look lost.

Hopefully this is not true, a very good player but a few levels off the best.
Based on what? Grealish is one of our top performers this year. I'd also say Maddison is technically better than Grealish

I think he’d be alright as a squad player, definitely better than Palmer. Not everyone can be as good as KDB, but still good enough to play for us and ease the burden on such a tiny squad. I think Maddison is quality enough as long as he’s not our only midfield signing in summer.

Exactly but you think he would come as a squad player?

If David Silva was still around, we would call Madison a cheap version of him, that's my point,he is a very good player, we simply need better.

James Maddison as a squad player for a decent price with only 1 year remaining on his contract, hard to see why people are so negative about that. KDB is getting older and cant play every game, with a player like Maddison as his backup we would be able to rest him more against weaker opposition. Bellingham-KDB as first choice mids with Gundogan-Maddison as backups would be the best first choice and backup mids in the league. And the summer after that we switch out Gundo for McAtee.

Apart from the technical qualities he has the lad also puts a shift in, has a similar defensive output to Bernie. So would be the ideal replacement for him.
Would still need a box to box mid too though.

If Grealish is average then our whole team is below-average, considering he's been one of our best players this season.
FUNNY you say that. Pep changes his system, then the entire team becomes average, except for Jack. Clearly the new system is working for Jack, even though he is still average. This new system has costed us and as for Jack, if we play like the way we usually play, the system that peppers teams, then he would look like a deer caught up in headlights, like he did when he got here.

Kdb is has been off, Gundo is off, Dias, Foden, Walker and Cancelo are all off. How is that the most important players in our team are the ones that are suffering the most? It is because this new system is detrimental to them just so Jack can look improved but still average.

Even with one year left he will warrant a big fee and big wage, and not sure he would be happy with a squad role and even if he was, it would be a sign of lack of ambition.

I'd take him over Silva, that's for sure. Has far more end product.

Fair assessment and how standards have dropped.
Dropped because of the new system that has benefitted Grealish. Our proper standard leaves Jack looking out of place and in the deep end of the ocean unable to comprehend what the hell he got himself into.

So what you are saying is that we cant sign anyone that understands that Bellingham-KDB will probably be first choice, since that must mean they lack ambition? With that mindset we cant sign anyone since Bellingham-KDB would be first choice no matter who we sign.
