That was my immediate thought, they've offered a straight £25mill with no clauses, we want buy-back and sell-on clauses.

We might be rating him more highly than teams that are interested in him, either way he has a year left and we either offer him an extension or flog him to whoever is interested.

Is there a list of suitors?

This HG specification needs to change I don't even know why they have it. Wasn't David Silva classed as HG as is Oscar Bobb?

The rule IMHO should be English players.
It's primarily a UEFA requirement for their competitions that is also being used by the PL.
I think it is to comply with European law where you cannot discriminate on grounds of nationality for employment.

David Silva was never HG in this country. Bobb spent several years in our academy so is.

My mistake about the maestro.

Still the HG rule should be abolished and replaced with an English rule.

Explanation:
The Premier League's definition of "home grown" player includes those who, regardless of their nationality, have been affiliated with the club for three years before the age of 21.

David Silva joined Manchester City from Valencia in 2010, and he was already 24 years old at the time. Therefore, he did not meet the age requirement for the three-year period.

Doesn't mean we flog him at the first low offer. There's been talk of German clubs making inquiries. I've no doubt that there's more than Forest in the PL interested.

Ohhh no I agree with you, but let's not go down the protecting your investment track like the rags did.

Personally I would have lurched forward at £25 million.

The drawback would be that the rule would not align with the UEFA rule making it a little more difficult for clubs in Europe to compete and attract high quality youngsters to their academy.

Ohh I am not disputing that at all, but there again I couldn't give two fucks about European competition :)

I see the top negotiators are out in force again…
With 1 year left (and our massive squad) every club would know this lad is available. It hardly a negotiation and more of an auction. We will get what we get. If he stays with us he will be lucky to get a handful of cup games.

PS. The HG rule is fine in my view. It helps the better organised clubs I.e. us. This is the first time in years we have had to make tough decisions as a result of squad limits.

We don’t for one minute expect to get £42mil, we aren’t that daft. Just negotiating tactic, but this is a deal that’ll get done, not a problem. I’d expect circa £30mil with £5mil in add-ons.

Must admit thought £25m is decent from what I’ve seen of his performances. He is technically good but not really imposed himself in games. The coaches will have seen more of him in training so if they think he is worth more and with more game time willl blossom happy to hold out for more but can’t see it being above £35m max. Hopefully I am wrong!!!

Quansah started a whopping 4 league games for the scousers last season and they've got £30m + £5m for him.

No way should we be accepting £25m for McAtee. It's not like one club has been linked, he's been linked with a few and I imagine there'll be at least three or four clubs interested.

I'd love him to succeed at City. We all like to see academy lads doing well here. I'm just not sure he's at the level we need. As you said, he's inconsistent. Sometimes good, sometimes invisible. It might be in his best interests to move on.
I can never make my mind up with the lad either. Does some nice things- my thoughts were last season the clock could be 30 mins plus before you remember he is playing? Seems to go off the grid a bit.

Good eye for goal, has that knack of popping up in the right place. But never seemed involved or influential enough in general play that you could see him holding down a place in our side. 3 chances created in 15 league appearances(343 minutes) is bad.
